IS there a way to find an ISP by the generic SSID

Did you know in 2018 in America there is internet that runs at an amazing 0.9 mbps down and (ERROR=time out) mbps uploads! Im renting a place and the SSID is PLP16 and another with a three digit two digit code ABC00. Since its so slow I'm thinking its like a spint hotspot? I tried a whole bunch of combinations in google but this internet is slow google doesn't want anything to do with it. You can get 12 mbps for 39.99 so this must being amazingly cheap.


What I don't understand is at night it will slow down then the SSID will stop being seen by my computer. This is a house without a whole bunch of SSIDs around maybe five from neighbors. Why would it stop broadcasting when there isn't a whole bunch of other SSIDs around?

Are you using 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi? If so, don't even bother.

There are a few walls in between me and where ever this router is so 5ghz will drop off fast. The wifi isn't the bottle neck this is really slow internet. Plus this router is so old/cheap and doesn't even have a 5ghz option.


If you have wireless n in your laptop does that automatically mean b,g and  or other previous/ older  standards will work? Or do they just figure no one will use wireless b anymore?

Build a high gain antenna and you'll get a much better signal. Start with a "biquad" and attach it to a satellite dish if you're looking for more.

Unfortunately it's easier to just move. I like my lap tops portability. Would that be possible on most lap tops; do they have the small coax connector inside, or is the antenna built into a circuit board/module like in a cell phone?


I was going to try this on an old cable modem but found there is three antennas inside and they use phasing to steer them into a directional antenna in a very complex way where you couldn't just plug a bigger full wavelength antenna into it. Much like the do with cell towers to aim them at traffic as it moves through out the day like along the highway.
