That was a pretty cool video.  Crazy to think how advanced that was for it's time.   Now we have satellites all over and fibre optics under the sea etc and more or less take it for granted.

Excellent video - well worth the time to watch it.  I don't think many people today realize just how much electronic advancement came from Bell Labs back in the day.  I certainly didn't know of too much more than the transistor until recently when I started reading more about them.  They made some amazing discoveries.

Just occurred to me, wonder if Star Wars' Deathstar was named after this.  It kinda looks like it.   Coincidence?

Unfortunately the day before Telstar 1 was launched Starfish Prime was detonated.  It didn't last long because of it.

 The high altitude burst test by the Soviet Union that October was the real coup de grace, although with workarounds it came alive again for another month before the already damaged transistors succumbed to normal solar radiation.
