Forums not accessible from my Samsung Galaxy...

.... i9000S - the first model, (Gingerbread, 2.6.35.7.). Classified as steam-punk by my kids.  :-[

Ok. its a bit old with the odd security vulnerability or two, or hundreds, and I do have another phone so its hardly the end of the world.

The standard browser comes back with an "The page contains too many server redirects" error. This isn't new, its been happening for at least a few months. Another victim of over aggressive advertising perhaps? Time to ditch the phone completely?

Looks like you can get 5.1 OmniROM for your phone.  I just through a similar procedure for an older tablet.

The usual  caveats apply.

edit: The tools used to upgrade are usually written for Windows.  I tried with Windows 10 and found it a frustrating/futile exercise for 2 days.  In the end I used Windows 7 and was done in 20 minutes.  Normally, I run Lubuntu, but there are usually no tools written for linux.

Additionally, a lot of these 3rd party ROMs are "one time" deals.  After they are released, it is rare that they are updated with the latest Android monthly security patches.  Running 5.1 is more secure than 2.6, but one could argue that is a false sense of security.

As such, I don't use any "smart phone" for any banking, email, etc.  In addition, I usually create a "throwaway" email for these devices.

I get exactly the same error on a Nexus 7 running Android 6 with the latest security updates.  No, I don't have a solution - just pointing out that it's not unique to Gingerbread,

Interesting - that prompted me to have a look around - clearing history and cache as someone suggested didn't work but using "Reset to default" in the browser settings did. So not a problem with the eevblog server after all.
