Indeed. This is the black market for you. Much better than the mainstream one  :-DD

Have a look at the picture I posted a couple posts back of the meter and look at the white coloured ring around the outside of the red positive jack. I haven't seen that before. Have you?  Hmmmm!   :-\

The date code on the bag for the wee black A jack protector plugs is 25/5/17 so those seem new enough! Maybe a new design??

Mine hasn't got one. Might be an artifact of certain market requirements say South America. Mine was made in 2017.

I'd crack it open and have a look inside. They are designed to be opened.

There aren't any on the market that are fakes AFAIK so you're ok there. Like I said it's probably local market thing i.e. "needs a dumbass ring on this jack to pass local certs"

Ive got it cracked all the way open. Is there anything that would indicate 1 way or the other? I can't see any obvious signs where it was made but do you have anything you wanna see before I close it back up?

Nothing specific. If you look at the edge of the board it'll say the revision. Mine has 8X-5-3001 REV 013 marked on it.  Rear has "FLUKE CORPORATION, EVERETT, WA USA" on it. I'd post some photos but my laptop charger blew up yesterday so waiting on another one.

Looks exactly the same as mine inside. The only difference is that big bit of grey plastic is red in mine. Literally identical though. Same fuses, proteciton, everything  :-+

Don't quote me on this, but I think a Fluke eBay store with OEM parts changed from one type to another about a year back. I think they may just changed the part and this is a relatively new one.

I'm seeing it elsewhere too, with the same story: https://picclick.com/Fluke-83-85-87-88-87V-88V-787-372464932058.html

"the Newest "Light Gray" Service part effective 10/24/2017 from Fluke Corp...and Made in the U.S.A. as stated on my Packing Slip from FLUKE Corp.on this part! These have been in production on all of the 'V' (5) series production Multimeters since July 2017."

Turn it on while holding the AutoHold button (top right) to get the firmware revision.

I think you are correct as this seems to be the same as some other stuff I have read elsewhere too. At least I know it is a relatively recent built meter. Well happy  :)
