Video blogging The first year
« on: November 24, 2015, 05:10:47 pm »
I just wanted to stop and say “Thank You” to a lot of members on this forum.
I recently was reminded that life is short and sometimes we do not appreciate what we have, nor the help that others have given you. I have spent a lot of hours over the past two weeks in hospice care watching my mother drift away.  Doctors are now telling us it is only a matter of days. Really comes home to you and reminds you just how short this life is.   :(

I have already said thank you to Dave in private but thanks again.
Before I found EEVblog I was sort of lost in old school technology, and would have never posted anything on YouTube.

There are so many folks here that have inspired me to push further and step out on a limb if you will.
It has been a year since I posted my first video then went a while without doing any. But now I have 14 videos and over 90 subscribers. I am getting lots of emails and messages from folks and nice comments.
All this really started happening about a month ago.
I know my first videos suck. Had no idea what I was doing.
Well to me all my videos suck, and I talk funny. Folks send me messages because they cannot figure out my accent and where in this big world I am. Just an old country boy on the east coast of NC. And to add impaired speech do to a brain seizure I had 4 years ago.

Anyway enough rambling.  Just hope my channel continues to grow. And a big thanks to those that have supported me.  Without an audience the channel means nothing.  You guys know who you are.
They first year has been shaky but fun. And maybe I will get better as time moves forward.
You guys and the greatest and I appreciate all that you all do.

Keep it up!
BTW, customise your Youtube URL to youtube.com/TheRadioShop
It's in the options somewhere I think.

One other recommendation if I may. Use at tripod, you'll get much better results than handheld.

Cool. I will get that done.
Thanks

Agree. I have 2 tripods.  I just have to learn to deal with them a bit more. Too many times I forget the camera has to be my eyes.
Think I am going to do some bench rearranging over the holidays to accommodate making videos.

Thanks for those tips mate :-+

Actually I reckon your voice is great, it is really nice and relaxed and I didn't have any problems with the accent.

(...Don't tell Dave, but Aussie accents are sometimes challenging and he does OK   :-X)

Subbed  :-+

Thank you very much for that compliment. When I first started I was no where from relaxed LOL. But now it just feels right kick back, pretend the camera is a person and to talk normal.

Yes, many blogger don't understand this and end up with half the product or thing they are talking about out of the shot.
Framing is important, and I like to think that's one of the better aspects of my videos.
If I'm talking about something in detail, then it usually fills the frame. This is why it's not uncommon for my videos to have 100+ clips, as I'm always changing the frame, adding removing the macro lens etc.
I almost always look through the camcorder screen when doing my videos. Hence why I sometimes miss stuff because the detail just isn't there.

Good stuff and noted. I find myself keep having to re-shoot a segment because what I was showing is not even in the shot. What I like to do in the future is get my videos on a big screen while I am shooting.

My Sony CX240 is not a bad camera. No mic jack no removable lenses. I will be looking for a better one soon. Would love to be able to have a macro lens.

I subbed a while back now. I find your both your voice and videos relaxing and enjoyable to watch. I didn't seem to notice it being handheld, but for me it's more about content over style anyway and your experience shines through. I do enjoy electronics murder mysteries.

Thank you for that wonderfull comment.
I am glad you enjoy electronics murder mysteries, I have enough stuff in the shop to keep me busy for a year or more.
I do want to do more style of videos like the Heathkit function generator repair. I am sure I will be getting more hunting down the rabbit hole in part two of the Kenwood ts-50 repair. That thing is a mess!

Subscriber list has doubled
Folks are mailing me with questions and future video recommendations
And folks are sending me stuff! (giving)

I am going to have to upgrade things.

Yes, that was a tragedy but at least it is back together and he is happy.  Perhaps he will find a replacement one day to put this rig back flawless.

Nice to hear your success story Radio Tech! Congrats!

I also started a channel a while ago, mostly as a motivation for me to follow through with stuff; I had this one more reason not to jump from project to project, but instead to finish it and upload the video. That was reason enough for me, but what a positive surprise when I started getting views and comments in my channel, and even a few subs!
Feels good doesn't it?!

All the best!

Yes feels real good. No idea that what ever I am rambling about would interest some folks.
I can see what you mean about projects. It is a good way to finish up one.

Link to your channel?

Yesterday while preparing video #15 I got a phone call from hospice.
I rushed over to moms house. With in 30 minutes she passed away.
Sure it hurts, but at the same time I feel relieved knowing she is no longer suffering  :'(
Rest in peace mother.

Oh I'm really sorry to hear that  :(
but yep, the end of suffering is a small comfort I guess.

I'm glad you made it there to be with her, and a comfort to her as well I'd imagine.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Means a lot.
I guess the good part is that we knew  her time was close. Suffered for many years.
Tomorrow we lay her to rest.

Thanks again.
