Video camera : Sanyo Xacti HD VS SONY handycam
« on: September 26, 2010, 03:25:03 am »
Yes I do plans getting an HD video camera ,  modern style to record on SD card , it must have lens stabilization ,  and be able to offer neutral colors , and to not drop frames at fast motion , plus to have fast auto focus , and if possible and manual focus ..

Do I ask that much ?

Currently I am looking at Sanyo Xacti HD 1010 and SONY HDR-CX11E  and  HDR - SX** models.

Any comment or advice are welcome.

I use the Sanyo Xacti HD-1010 for the blog.
The latest model is the HD-2000
It's a great blogging camera, but it does not have optical image stabilisation.
It has manual control override for almost every function.

if you are me, i'll buy from sony, example: Sony XR200 Full HD High Definition 120GB Camcorder http://cgi.ebay.com.my/Sony-XR200-Full-HD-High-Definition-120GB-Camcorder-/250699650510?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_207&hash=item3a5edd15ce

or: Canon HF S21 Full HD High Definition 64GB Camcorder http://cgi.ebay.com.my/Canon-HF-S21-Full-HD-High-Definition-64GB-Camcorder-/250699650482?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_207&hash=item3a5edd15b2

sorry Malaysian's ebay site and they are both store to HDD, not SD, but thats what i prefer. Every camcorders should have IS, i'm surprise Sanyo HD1010 didnt! maybe it doesnt have super zoom lens range.

but if you more toward professional as manual focusing is your concern and as you have described of yourself ;) you may get something like this (as i remember u've described it long time ago... "built to last for a lifetime... or whatever the same meaning :D ): The magnificent XL-H1 http://cgi.ebay.com.my/NEW-Canon-XL-H1s-PAL-HDV-3-CCD-camcorder-XL-H1-XL-H1-/170311106342?pt=Camcorders_Professional_Video_Cameras&hash=item27a7553f26 ;D

Dave, the filming at the 87-5 latest video at the 3G test , it was made by the HD 1010 ?

I found the HD1010 used in Greece ( I think that I can get it for 130-150 EUR )

To all ...

I found and another candidate Canon Legria FS306
It looks interesting so far ..  but its not HD

Got the HD1010 its final ...  I payed 140EUR
Used, but from good hand ( photographer)  boxed ,
all extras included.  ( plus fish-eye lens and second battery) .
But with out SD card ..

I currently own one Transcend 4GB 133X not SDHC .
( it does have compatibility with just SD )

I wonder what is the true bandwidth that it needs from an card at the maximum resolution,
like 1080P 60 frames ..

Yes, I film everything with my HD-1010
It doesn't perform the best in my lab which is relatively poorly lit.

most palm sized handheld camcorder perform that way in poorly lit condition. so you can consider it a "norm" ;)

that is a very nice DIY version! fabricating a suitable gimbal has always been the biggest challenge in most  counterbalance diy designs.

check out the figrig from manfrotto. very easy to duplicate!

this is really cool as well...

Nop ... This specific Sanyo , its an bat compared with even the latest models ,
I watched yesterday every youtube review about it,  in all languages .   ;D
Its is an fantastic performer .. even at low light ...

About the outdoor shooting ( 3G test ), the quality of the picture was breath taking..

Even currently , it looks that there is no any " new and better"  performer at low light , from what I have read , so far.

I will collect my HD1010  tomorrow , today got shipped from Athens.
Originally it was sold as New before 11 months from HK to Greece ,  the ebay history log does miracles  ;D

I use a Class 4 SDHC card with my HD-1010 and it works fine in every mode.

Thanks Dave ...

Today I got my Xacti, thanks God its shiny and all , all accessories in the box too.

Did my first recording with max resolution and 60 fields ( new terminology ),
well I had issues on playback with the computer.
Found some tips , dropped at full HD 30 frames , and now I have correct playback .
I did an quick test , to edit with Nero Ultra 7 , the preview looks choppy at full resolution 30 frames,
so I did not make any editing.

Tomorrow I will try more options...  700P HD

About the SD cards, at the beginning I insert to it, an Kingston standard 4GB , and I got some issues, it was recording video,
but it did not store steady shots ... and funny enough even the flash unit was not operating properly..
Everything cured , by inserting the Transcend  4GB  133X  (20 Megabyte/s)

I think that I will have an very short learning curve, my 10 years of experience with Olympus,
looks to pay out ..  ;)

My own Olympus C-2100UZ ,  its also 10X optical, so all the extra lens that I have , it will work on the Sanyo too, I only need one step-up ring.. 40.9-49

The camera came with one cheap wide-macro , found on ebay for 20 UK pounds ,
but I did not had time to test it..

.

For playback I use VLC player, and Ulead Videostudio pro X2 for editing.
If you are getting choppy playback then I suspect your machine might not be able to hack the HD MP4 playback. try VLC player, it's the best out there.

I shoot in 1280x720, never in 1920x1280 full HD, as it's lower bandwidth and easier to edit. And as with all these low end cameras, the optics and image sensor quality really don't do 1920x1080 justice I don't think, so I don't see the point.

I got choppy playback only at "Nero Vision" editor at 1920x1280 full HD.

It will take me some time to find the balance ..

As long my SD card can do 6.5 - 10 MB/s write speeds ,
my major concern got away.

But from my first video test at 1920x1280 full HD it looks that the average MB/s its like 1.5MB ,
2min 21 seconds video, about 196MB file size .

Any way , I will find my balance.

Thanks Dave for the tips.
