At work, always http://somafm.com/groovesalad/

It's the only radio station that doesn't distract me when I need to think. No commercials, no dj.

What else?
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.

depends on the period.
If i'm getting into a new artist, everything from that artist.
Otherwise, my usual playlist or the radio. I listen to the radio a lot. Not for music, but talk shows

Cant listen to the talk shows in the US anymore, the politics are so polarized and biased (in either direction) you have no idea what the truth is, its all fake news anymore.  Then you have all the tragedy's and terrible news that the media lives for.  Too depressing, just give me some music, the world will go on and I will be happier to not pay attention to it.

because you don't have Radio24 ;D It's the only radio staion i can listen to. There are a lot of speakers there that are competent, have a sense of humor and irony. i don't care who talks, they are really entertaining.
On the morning commute, one of the guys is a journalist i really like, especially when he heats up and start with a neverending stream of words, then another show until 11.
at noon this other guy which does extravagant surveys based on the news of the day.
At three a musician speaks about famous people, or book characters, or operas and narrates their lives.
At six, our version of the howard stern snow. Great while commuting.
truly a great radio

When I worked in a masheen shop, the owner would play classing 70's and 80's American rock, until Highway to Hell would come on and he'd shut it off. I asked him why and he said, "I'm NOT on a highway to hell..."

When the towers fell the music died and I just listen to talk radio now. I try to get a balance with Dr. Savage, Armstrong and Getty, Dr. Drew, and Chip Franklin.

That's probably the best performance of Stairway to Heaven I've seen.

I don't know how it was done, but that Vimeo version doesn't have the annoying CBS "eyeball" watermark, like the copy I got from youtube. I'll have to see if I can get a copy to replace what I have.

Hi,

Of course, the music I play changes with my mood and with the gene I'm doing.
Try to program something like batch files or some Arduino code that can be it better to be quiet, that requires too much brain power from me.

But otherwise this is what is passing by a lot.
New Order
David Bowie
Alex Smoke
Johannes Heil
Comsat Angels
Stone Roses
Underworld
Simple Minds
Faithless
The Cure
Kraftwerk
Extrawelt
Ritchie Hawtin
Editors
Joy Division
Trentemoller
U2
The black Dog :-)
Eminem
The sisters of Mercy
Front 242
Macy Gray
Talking Heads
Todd Rundgren
Editors
Some Bach
Doris Day
Jo Staffort
And more...

Uhg, yeah I always liked Time, but lately it's really starting to hit home.

Then don't watch this;

It does hit home, though with me, it will probably be the opposite.  I am 9 years older than my wife.  The odds do favor her outliving me.  That is why I try to make every day count.  The past is gone, the future hasn't come yet.  Today is the 'present' and I try to make it a wonderful present every day for SWMBO.

Music wise: classic rock, progressive jazz, classical and inspirational music when I am in the mood.  Mostly, quiet reigns.  Inevitably, i will spend time on the phone with fellow technicians and site contacts when doing phone/remote fixes and troubleshooting.  Can't have music in the background.

I usually list slightly backwards, it is more comfortable. I might sometimes list a bit to the side, if sitting on a bad chair and if my butt is asleep.

As to music, I need silence when I think hardly.  When I'm prototyping or exploring, I might listen to classical music (not opera; sopranos get on my auditory nerves), or some Finnish bands with stories in the lyrics.

Hi kj7e,

Thank you for pointing me to the Talking Heads video!

A lot of sound engineering can learn some lessons from this video...

Kind regards,
Bram

Tried listening to music from The Amp Hour, a high pitched guy and a gruff guy. Only seems to work in the car.   :)

Pink Floyd... the 'Time' lyrics that get me are

"You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun"

 - not totally applicable but makes you pause and re-assess...

Went and saw Roger Waters in Feb, glad I did after not being able to see Pink Floyd in years gone by.. (multiple of ten years probably  :-DD)
Not easy, not hard, just need to be incentivised.
