What is up with her voice?
« on: March 31, 2015, 01:15:37 am »
Was looking to see any teardowns of industrial automation equipment and came across this video.  I'm not sure if she's doing that on purpose but her voice seems to be all over the place.

Not that bad. Just a standard combination of reading a script and trying a bit too hard.

IIRC there already is 1-2 years old tread about her somewhere on the forum.

BTW I would prefer that my boards are not washed unless really necessary.  Especially if there are a lot of ICs in the sockets.

Not enough compression in post, and some clipping in the source recording. Could use some more voice training.

Her voice needs to drop by at least an octave, talking slower would help as well

Oh god I sound like the biggest moron in front of a camera :(   I have been trying to record a few clips on a repair I'm doing, and honestly? For anyone that wants to see how difficult it is to get in front of a camera and do what mikeselectricstuff, Dave, Shariar and others do, try it yourself. Very humbling.

Now that I think about it, the voice reminds me of one or more school teachers that I've had.

"Everyone's a critic?  Let's see you in front of a camera!   :D"

I have a speech impediment and it gets worse when I'm nervous, such as talking in front of a camera. This means that I'm not suitable as a video blog host, the secret of a long and happy life is to be aware of your own limitations  ;) I can however recognize talent when I see it.

Some presenters are good in front of a camera, for a start we can include Dave, Mike and Andy from Photonic Induction in the list, and I watch these blogs as soon as they hit Youtube. However there are some video blogs that I avoid purely because of the style of delivery (no names because I am trying to be kind).

I don't blog regularly, or do anything like that, but I do make videos from time to time, as a review or sometimes just as a tutorial to help people out.  I think the trick, if there is one, is to pretend the camera is just a friend you're talking to.  When I do stuff like this, literally have a conversation with the camera, and I even might imagine some responses back.  It helps to imagine the direction the "friend" might be tugging you in.  Anyhow, that's my thing.

Incidentally, I have a stutter.  Most people I know completely forget about it after being around me for a little bit.  Unless it's really awful, and mine gets pretty awful if I have any sort of alcohol (stutter control is the first thing to go!), I find if I just ignore it and say what I have to say, most people start ignoring it to.  Most of my friends wouldn't even say I stutter, but I know I do and I know they hear it.  It just doesn't register, for whatever reason.

There's nothing wrong with her voice. She sounds genuinely excited and quite knowledgeable about her industrial electronics products. Just your typical Valley Girl really.

Pretty sure she's a Michigan girl actually. But I agree, I didn't find her voice all that strange, maybe a bit over enthusiastic.  Probably has had some professional level training seeing as she worked on screen in television for a number of years.

Just your typical Valley Girl really.

It's just the over enthousiastic typically American female squeeky voice to me. Look I pretend to be happy when I talk like this...  :scared:

+1
Well explained and very clear and to the point.
I find nothing wrong with her way of doing this.
But she could learn from"Sherlock" of how to be a little faster in her speech.
