I concur that there is a particular problem searching for "R1" even after compiling. So, that is a bit crap.

So far, all other searches are working for me after compiling.

why do I need to compile before searching? The project was compiled in order to produce the PCB so it's all nice and linked up. Why compile after a PCB is complete? how does this specifically help with searching?

According to E14 tech support CS doesn't automatically compile when you open a project

One thing to remember is that you will probably need to compile each time you start CircuitStudio, the compile is not run automatically when CS starts or opens the project.

But as you say, if you have compiled and made no changes to the project I would expect searching to Just Work^TM

I wish search could be restricted to just the documents you have open (e.g. just PCB) rather than opening schematic sheets (when those results happen to be top of the list)

Soooo, i have been playing with CS for a week or so now after i got my initial problems sorted. For me as a newbee, i cant see very many differences in the actual software. My one big complaint is "Altium Vault". I find it very hard to search for items and there seems to be a complete lack of through hole components. As someone has previously said, i have spent a huge amount of time creating my own libaries.

I do not use the vault. I downloaded all the libraries that were available at the time I did it, and keep them local. Getting a few odd parts when needed is not an issue. Would likely need to make them myself. So far the libraries I have cover everything I have needed.

I just make my awn along with nice realistic 3D models that I produce myself or download from the manufacturer.

PCB Library Expert (free edition) makes nice footprints and STEP models.
