Autorouter max number of vias
« on: April 10, 2017, 02:18:25 am »
Hi,

Is there a way to set the max number of vias the auto router will use, for the board, and for nets? Total on the board is probably not as important as being able to say that certain nets can only have 1 via.

Thanks

Joel

Autorouters suck. All of them.
Put on your headphones, play some good tunes, setup your rules and get in the PCB routing groove  8)

Yes I agree, any real critical nets/buses I would likely do by hand ( generally the whole board for that matter ). But it's also about wanting to understand what this tool can do and its limitations. The autorouter might be fine for non critical boards ( maybe more ) if it can be set up properly. My use for this tool isn't that I particularly like doing layout, I want to get my designs done. If I can grow some layout rules that I can apply to catagories of designs and get say 60% of the layout in a sensible way out of the autorouter, I would use it. I have not used Altium products in the past so I don't know what it can or can't do, but will spend some time learning it's limitations.

Thanks

Joel

IMHO you'll spend more time setting it up, running it and then tidying up the mess it made than you would just doing it yourself.
I find CS with push-n-shove and CTRL-click to complete single tracks quite productive...
...and I would get laughed out of any design review if I turned up with an autorouted board.

But of course, try it and see if it works for you.

Come on Google Deepmind, we need AI autorouting, stop messing about with all that AlphaGo crap!
