Where are the libraries???
« on: April 12, 2017, 06:17:08 am »
Hi
I just installed Circuit Studio and cant find any of the parts I need!!  |O
It seems to come with two of the crappiest libraries I've ever seen - Miscellaneous Connectors.IntLib and Miscellaneous Devices.IntLib.
And there doesn't seem to be any more!
Am I doing something stupid?
I don't want to spend a lot of money for something without any of the components I need - minus one or two.

Thanks.

Easy man, the $10k AD comes with equally crappy libraries.
Starting form AD10 (or 09?), Altium dropped libraries from standard installation. You can download them (legacy library, stopped updating since then) from Altium's website.
For latest libraries, you need to pay for subscription in order to download them from their public vault.
Stuuf that :-//  :bullshit:  :palm:  :phew:, I'll try Autotrax :-+.

If you have a valid (trial will work too) subscription, enable the Altium-provided Vault in the configuration.

yep there is one...
Code: [Select]
System Error.  Code: 1400.  Invalid window handle at 3B205E61.
FolderAspect_FlexibleBrowseItems.dll, Base Address: 3B1E0000.
started working than some sort of error.
How much is the subscription anyway?
Is it easy to get or is it as hard to get hold of as AD?
Are the old libraries any good for basic footprint like stranded SMD footprints?

IMHO stock libraries are always useless. I always design my own footprints to accommodate different PCB's requirements (high reliability vs small size, and other trade-offs).

Boasting just a bit here? ;) That's a strong statement to make; properly done stock footprints are a great time saver and they're just fine in most cases. Not everyone is pushing the limits of technology on the daily basis.

Member free_electron has offered his Altium library on the forum before and I hope I don't get growled by linking it again.

It seems the $495 deal that was supposed to end March, 31st is still on but you have to order through http://www.altium.com/eagle-switch/circuitstudio/. You get 1 year Vault subscription and updates with that. Subsequent years subs are $150 as of now. See other threads for the details on that deal.

Is it easy to get or is it as hard to get hold of as AD?

It went rather smoothly for me but there are reports of some problems in the other thread so YMMV.

The vault and downloadable libraries from Altium site have worked for me. Manually making components is also easy.
