From Karl Von Moller of the doco fame, if you used the Dick Smith Funway kits way back Karl would like to interview you at the local hacker space.

Hi to all,
It has been a long time between transmissions and I hope this email finds you well.

I have asked the local Hackerspace here in Melbourne (CCHS - http://www.hackmelbourne.org) to help bring people associated with Dick Smith Electronics, either as a customer or otherwise, together on Saturday the 1st of October for an informal celebration of sorts. The aim is that it affords me an opportunity to film willing participants in a short interview to camera about how they got started in electronics through the "Fun Way" series. The address is 5 Kent Ln, Hawthorn VIC 3122, Australia, very near to the Telstra Museum if you know where that is.

The CCHS committee, Andy Gelme and I would like to invite you and anyone associated with DSE to the BBQ from 6pm on Saturday the 1st of October, or come along earlier, from 12PM onwards, if you would like to contribute to this little video by telling us how the books and kits helped you to become a successful engineer/technician/scientist in whatever field. Filming will stop sharply at 6pm so if you do want to contribute, please do come earlier. While your there, you can check out what CCHS does and learn more about their facilities.

It is also meant to be a little wake of sorts for Dick Smith Electronics. I’m sure your attendance would go a long way in helping to strengthen the electronics community and provide a valuable opportunity for others to ask questions and start conversations. The CCHS members are keen viewers of “State of Electronics” and the EEVBlog channel so it would wonderful to have as many of you there as possible.

Thank you for your time.

Cheers

Karl von Moller

If you can't make it and you'd like to contribute then

Would it be possible to ask people in your sphere to film themselves with a decent steady camera saying something like “I started out with the Funway books and kits and that led me to design electronics for … I now work in …"
The video doesn’t need to be any longer then that but if people want to elaborate on how those kits and books helped that would also be good I think.
They can upload the video to their own account and send me a link to this email: tinker@artisanfilms.com.au

My father got us the funway books..  1,2,&3..

We even made our own number1 board rather than buying the kit, dad made them out of some wood, and got the screws etc..  We moved onto book 2. ( remember the organ and the Fm bug.. )

Book3,  had a fx processor if i remember correctly..

On a quest to find increasingly complicated ways to blink things

Sorry to miss this event.

However Fun Way may be reborn. The NEW Fun Way website is under construction but looks promising.

Have a poke around http://www.funwayelectronics.com/
