Hi All,

Well,I tried the keyfob trick with my 7613 & an RF probe (homemade), but I didn't have enough pickup to turn the
Germanium diode on.

I was going to continue, but I kept locking & unlocking my car at the front of the house. The left front door has a problem,in that it doesn't always relock,so the cars starts to beep, freaking out the neighbours.

Funny thing is,the thing doesn't have anywhere near that range in a shopping centre carpark! :D

I notice there is a new entry, with the bloke talking about & demonstrating aliasing.
He won't get anywhere------not politically correct!!

now when thing goes into this keyfob trick thing, rs232 hack etc, people get excited.
ps: i tried Dave, everyday, but i'm just one single man. no matter how rubbish it is, which is not i believe. people will realize how important it is long after the Tek contest expired, esp when they dig more into ee. just a simple one capacitor is enough to make you into a chaos headache.

I did indeed, big thanks to everyone who voted!
I think they disqualified the Keyfob guy?

Dave.

I think you need to have a video contest to give away that scope, maybe something like "Best way to destroy a cheapo chinese multimeter" ;D

Well done!

Elettronica Open Source is an Italian community I discovered some time ago, and subscribed. I soon loose interest, since the technical content is really poor, at least with respect to the EEVblog.
They used to give away some devices (debuggers, development kits,...) every week, to the member who promised the most interesting use and a review of it. I think they're going to open a give away for the Tek scope too.

Behind the community there is an (apparently) enthusiastic team and an Italian electronics design company (EMCelettronica srl), as BoredAtWork said.

They say they have a large number of followers, both on the Italian and English version of the site:
Your Electronics Open Source:
+20.000 blog users
+8000 Fans on Facebook
+2000 viewers/day

Elettronica Open Source:
+8000 blog users
+28000 Fans on Facebook
+7000 viewers/day

This was clearly a popularity contest, the other top 4/3 videos are crap IMO, didn't think Dave's video was that great either. There are definitely some cooler videos (like the DIY SEM) in there.

I agree 100% with you. I think I've already said as much on this forum somewhere, a truly awesome piece of hacking by a true enthusiast who would of gotten the very best out of the kit. Hope he is acknowledged in round 2.

Edit** (Thinks)....Sh*t. May of blown my chances of a free scope there....Damn!**

It did occur to me while watching that a DSO may have been fairly useless for this application. They often lack a Z input and have a fairly low update rate. At least the TDS2k,  not sure about MSO.

The thing is with the SEM bloke, even if it's used with something very high tech,he is just using the the Oscilloscope as a picture monitor.

I remember doing this with a 545B when I was on evening shift at a manned TV transmitter site when things got boring,
----It's not rocket science!

Most of the other videos were just showing normal functions of the Oscilloscope which people could read in the Operator's Handbook.

Dave focussed on something a bit different from the run of the mill stuff.

I was thinking more of it being a great asset to him in his development work rather than as a display device. I feel certain that he will develop a much better display system in time (higher resolution, contrast, image capture etc) to display his scans but at the moment is concentrating on getting the scanning part perfected. Good luck to him anyhow.

That's the thing with contests like this. A scope can be used to test or monitor just about any project anyone has worked on, making the scope aspect almost irrelevant, and the big advanced projects that have likely been developed over many years always look the coolest. That's why I decided to not to use a project at all, but went with just the scope itself (and something people may not have known about).

Take the Renesas design contest for example, not surprisingly the most advanced and refined project won:
http://www.renesasrulz.com/community/rx-contest
That project has been developed and refined over many years, and has even been entered into other contests. So the other contestants who developed a project from scratch just for the project really had a hard time beating it in the short time frame!

Similar thing for the 555 timer contest?

Dave.

Dave, I you hadn't made "EEVblog #14 – An unusual Oscilloscope phenomenon!" would you have selected that for the contest?

Looks like Dave is a runner up and gets to take home a TDS2024C.  I'm looking forward to the inevitable teardown when the scope arrives at its new home!
