Apollo nano spectrometer
« on: February 21, 2015, 06:20:03 am »
I stumbled across this while hunting for spectrometer on a chip solutions.

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/apollo-nano-spectrometer

ultra compact ( standard module : 5mm x 5mm x 5mm)
cost effective ( target price $10 @ millions volume)
nano accurate (+/-1nm) and high resolution ( 5nm~20nm )
easy to use and reflowable ( can be soldered directly on PCB )
no fiber no moving part
wide input angle ( > +/- 30 degree)
wavelength coverage : 390nm~760nm, 600nm~1000nm, 400nm~1000nm, 850nm~1050nm ( typically, the narrower range, the higher resolution)
flexible wavelength range/resolution customization available
UV & IR ranges are not included for this first project but they are certainly on our product roadmap
3.3V single power, low power consumption( < 10mA @max)
digital interface to MCU through SPI, GPIO

I'm not sure about their pricing methodology for ADK access to a particular wavelength range.  So I probably won't go for it myself.  BUT!  This sensor is insanely small and supposedly cheap in large volumes.  I'll keep an eye out for a DigiKey type product it in a few years.
Chinglish poetry: In the hot summer. In the car ran full steam. It tastes strange. For this worry? With this fan will bring you a cool summer. Suitable for all kinds of cars. Agricultural vehicles. Van. Tricycle.
