It looks like the $40 option just gets you some accessories. If you want an actual board it's $200.

Definitely. At a first look I thought was 40 for all the items in the picture. Images like those generate a little bit of confusion.

Interesting… I was in the process of adjusting the HackRF design to work with OSHPark's 4 layer PCB stack up. The parts cost that I had put together for 1 unit (minus the PCB cost) was 121$ CDN (and the board cost @ OSH Park was 120$ for 3 boards).

They mention using it to read a 115kHz RFID card, but HackRF only works down to 10MHz without an RF up converter.

I found this odd as well.  But apparently they have tested this and it works. Perhaps someone with a HackRF could give some input if the original can do this as well?

They would have to use an RF upconverter but they don't say they used one. It is a bit misleading.
