DSP-Crowd and the Raspberry Pi Zero to DE0 Nano connector
« on: March 15, 2017, 04:13:05 pm »
Hello!

We will start our first Kickstarter in a few days. Here is the preview link:

What do you think about our project? We would be glad to get any feedback  :)

Raspberry Pi Zero is the wrong target... too hard to get and too slow.  Anyone who would buy the DE0 Nano and your board would be willing to spend a little more on a Pi 3.

While I wish you good luck I would point out that a DE0 nano SOC comes in at about the same price and is all integrated with a high speed interconnect to the fpga and two arm cores. A Pi 3 would as edavid says, be more desirable but more expensive yet.

Thank you for the constructive feedback to both of you!

We will test the connector with the Raspberry Pi A+, 2 B and 3 B as well immediately.
The connector should also work with these boards due to the identical pin header assignment.
After that we will adapt the documentation on the Kickstarter page.

@chickenHeadKnob: The high speed interconnect to the fpga is indeed a point

For my part, I don't like a "System Builder" or a "Design Suite" very much. I just want to code some little vhdl modules and get the data out of the FPGA or control my modules through an SPI. This was the main reason to connect the "simple" DE0 Nano board to my Raspberry Pi. For me it seems to be fewer pain in the ass. It depends on want you are planning to do with this stuff.

Thank you again for the feedback  :)

Hi everyone!

In the last few days we tested the remaining Raspberry Pi models. The connector works with all Raspberries which have the 40pin header. Thanks for the hint edavid!
The supported Pi models are therefore:
  • Raspberry Pi Zero
  • Raspberry Pi Zero W
  • Raspberry Pi 1 Model A+
  • Raspberry Pi 1 Model B+
  • Raspberry Pi 2 Model B
  • Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
We adjusted the documentation accordingly and launched our Kickstarter campaign today!

Best regards,
