To bad this isn't get more backing.. I think it looks like a clever device.

Does anyone know an alternative, if the kickstarter fails?

I thought windscreens were for seeing the outside world through.  :-\

No one says it must be placed in the windscreen..

I think it's cool with the automatic grabbing function.. I know, it's not need to have, but still a nice gimmick. https://ksr-video.imgix.net/assets/024/030/478/e0cddf5c396a5b2bded06bab1cb59a20_h264_high.mp4

Hmm, all the images and video show it hanging off the rear view mirror.

Well, that's their decision - I won't have my phone up there.

I already have a magnet mount so I know these work great. Their choice of attaching to the rear view mirror seems a bit off - superficially it looks great, but the weight off to one side is surely going to result in the mirroring moving over bumps. Nevertheless, I backed this just for the plain mount since it solves the issue of finding some empty and flat space on the console to mount a magnet.

When navigation is running would a Qi supply even keep up with power usage?  My phones lose battery capacity even when plugged in (unless it's a high power charger) so I can't imagine a Qi supply would deliver enough.

My Mate 20 Pro can just keep up (the battery level keeps constant) with a cheap Qi charger. The adapter i'm using is 5V 500 mA. The Qi holder it self can take 9V or 12V 1A, that should be enough to charge.

I find it strange that they only asked for $20,133 to make this project. That is already a red flag, don't you think? This cannot be an original build for that money. They must be trying to buy a container at very cheap cost from a new run coming out of a Chinese factory, or it is the manufacturers doing it. Still, I can't understand the $20,133 needed for this campaign to KickStart.

Second, where is it getting power for charging? There appear to be 2 models... the cheaper $14-25 model has no Qi wireless charging so it wouldn't plug in. But something has to power the "auto clamp" feature... is this a rechargeable internal battery that you have to charge up once in a while, or does it have to be plugged in somewhere all the time? If you mount it to the rear-view mirror how will you route your cable? As far as I know the only option to power stuff in the car is through the 12V cigarette lighter adapter or some cars have 5V USB ports now. The more expensive $29-39 model has the Qi charger built in.

And by the way, what is this on eBay for $23:

Here is a video of a similar one with auto-clamp and wireless charging:

My understanding was that the cheap one (that is, the one without QI charging) wouldn't have the holder - it is merely a magnet on the end of a stick and the phone attaches via a metal plate stuck to the back of it or sandwiched between phone and case. That's the sort I currently use.

The price seems a bit high for that in comparison to Ebay/Amazon products, but in absolute terms it's reasonable - far cheaper than I could make myself!

I agree that the funding level looks dodgy (the non-integer value you quote may well be due to currency conversion) but I've backed worse ones and got a result in the end. Don't care if it's a manufacturer, or a container offload so long as I got one :)
