Operating System U.
« on: August 23, 2014, 11:18:03 am »
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/560448486/operating-system-u

A team of ten to produce a Linux Desktop OS, based on Manjaro Linux witch is based on ArchLinux.

Not going to happen...

Canonical with millions spend didn't manage to solve the "GNU/Linux Desktop" thing entirely.

Not going to happen...

It happened for me in 2001, been 100% Linux on the desktop since then.

But yeah, his project will fail, especially if he thinks he's spawning "The Year of the Linux Desktop"

"Are you tired of being forced to upgrade your Operating System regularly? What about the unnecessary changes that end up being made, changes that you don’t even want, much less need? How would you like to pick and choose what aspects of your operating system you want upgraded, and leave the ones you know, love, and are accustomed to how they are?"

 - I'm already not forced to upgrade.
 - Unnecessary changes?  Haven't noticed any, XFCE hasn't changed much over the years.
 - Pick and choose?   :-DD , LOL,  :palm:  Has this guy even used Linux?

Had trouble reading much further past that...

Yes, I am using GNU/Linux for desktop since 1999.

My comment was for their effort.

Not to mention that it's very easy to make Windows 8 look and feel like Windows 7 if you want.

Is there a window-8 start screen like desktop for linux?
I'm starting to sort-of like having icon size and color as additional visual cues to which apps are which.  (now, if the default start menu didn't start out full of crapware, I'd be even happier!)

Huge surprise, they only raised $1948 out of $50k.

Their response:

"Unfortunately OS U was unsuccessful. I truly, truly appreciate everyone who backed us, but unfortunately since we where unsuccessful, combined with other circumstances, OS U will not have any more continued development. "
