Hey, we just launched a indiegogo campaign that might be interesting for all network / IT people. Would be great to get some feedback!

We developed a smartphone connected cable network tester for $150,-. We’re trying to bring it to the market within the next months so we’re running a crowd funding campaign to make that happen.

Here’s what the device can do:

Wiremap including shield
Advanced wiremap with length measurement
TDR-based, single ended fault locating
Voltage detection
PoE supply detection
Legacy PoE device detection
Cable toner with customizable ringtones
Bit error rate test (10/100/1000)
Port blinker
Link speed and duplex identification (10/100/1000)
Link establishment test (10/100/1000)
DHCP, DNS, Ping, Traceroute tests (10/100)

PDF report generation
Send report via Email (also to issue tracking systems)

If you want to know more details, have a look at the project page: indiegogo.pockethernet.com

Why the custom case ?
I can't believe you couldn't have found a perfectly good off-the-shelf case for something like this.

Well, we really didn't find any good off-the-shelf case (please link if you have any suggestions for the future!).

Also, we hope to have enough volume to justify the custom plastics and not make any compromises on the size and usability.
After all, it has to neatly fit into your pocket, or the name doesn't work out :)

Interested, but you won't ship to Australia yet?

Takachi make some really nice pocket cases with rubber boots.

There are plenty of other handheld cases from the usual suspects - Hammond, Okw, Pactec, Bopla to name a few.

For a product like this it's important to focus on the core functionality - building a custom case is just a distraction.

Sadly, we decided to be on the safe side of the regulations (EMC, safety, environmental, tax, etc.).
For the start, it seemed that covering two major regions is feasible, but dealing with additional national variations would risk the fulfillment of the whole project.
