Tah : BLE Arduino with a tonne of Apps
« on: November 05, 2014, 11:01:22 am »
Hello Hackers,

We are doing a crowdfunding project for Tah, an Arduino compatible BLE enabled development board
Link  : http://tah.io/get
We are writing a bunch of apps for getting things done with the Tah, check them out on the App Store https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/revealing-hour-creations/id930441595 (Apps for Android coming soon in a Play Store near you)

All our source code has been already released on GitHub https://github.com/tah-io
Check out our youtube channel for some videos too https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCY7RNCi0S8jQDE3BZQw5Gwg

We would love to hear more from the community here !
Don't forget to get yourself a Tah if you like what we are doing :D

Uh.... You do know you're supposed to not have any copper or components below or adjacent to the antenna, correct?

PCB antennas like that are intended to hang over the edge of the board. Having them over bare FR4 alone will somewhat detune them, and having the antenna over a (admittedly broken) copper pour will completely tank your wireless performance, because it detunes the antenna.

Hope that soldering (particularly on the LED's and TO-220 package) is fixed soon.....

So what exactly does this do over loading some software on a Leo device or other simular USB pluggable arduino or some sort?

Agree.
We fixed that in our update here https://www.crowdsupply.com/revealing-hour/tah-open-ble-arduino-board/updates

We were doing a lot of soldering by hand but that will change once we do it at a larger scale.

Getting a smartphone connected directly to your Arduino enables a lot of stuff.

  • PlayStation controller as an App using the HID capabilities of the 32u4 : https://github.com/tah-io/iOS/tree/master/TAH%20Play
  • The same HID capability allows one to connect the Tah to a laptop/PC and use it to play songs from an app or change slides or anything that basically send any combination of keypresses from a nearby smartphone : https://github.com/tah-io/iOS/tree/master/TAH%20Motion%20Control
  • You can build smart accessories for your phone like a dice which tells a game app on your phone which side it fell on
  • Also, as it is pin compatible with your standard Leonardo, you can use any of your existing shields and by that logic any of your existing projects can be controlled over the smartphone.
  • Use it as a beacon (we aren't allowed to say iBeacon) for contextual notifications and indoor navigation
