Wino - wifi enabled arduino thingy
« on: November 16, 2014, 04:32:14 pm »
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/wino-board-wifi-and-arduino-compatible-for-15

The part I don't understand is why they wouldn't show some real hardware, it's all renders. Even on their website, no photos, nothing.

I mean, it seems plausible, apart from the price. So a prototype should/could exist, right?

I'm not sure in what measure they are Arduino compatible... they are not Arduino-like in the traditional 'Atmega328 / Arduino Uno' sense, but as 'ARM M0 / Arduino Zero'. Also, what is that third row of pins?

Anyway, at least they are serious enough to go for a 'fixed funding' round...

Looks pretty similar to the "RFDuino" line introduced by Sparkfun just last week:

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13208

The hw seems to be ATSAMD21. I have found the specs, they have really done an excellent job with burying this - had to click through like 10 links before I got there through the marketing BS from the Indiegogo page:

http://www.wino-board.de/index.php/about-wino/the-wino-board-examples-2

Sparkfun's board has BLE, not Wifi though - makes a lot more sense to me if one targets low power.

The Wino guys keep repeating how "low power" the device is, but there are zero data anywhere about the power consumption of their board. Considering it has Wifi, I don't see how this can be a very low power device ... My guess is that they haven't actually even built a prototype (and thus are talking out of their backsides) and just hope to buy the parts using the Indiegogo money for it.

Price is good but no HTTPS/SSL and Windows only IDE (?). I will pass.
