Board outline must be included at least in one layer
« on: November 25, 2013, 06:54:13 pm »
I'm going to get a PCB Manufactured from elekfreaks, but in the PCB design rules it says 'Board outline must be included at least in one layer.'
How am I supposed to include it? I've got a separate board outline layer, but how do I put it into another?

The proper outline layer should count as "at least one layer"

It can be a pain in the a** if the board maker won't accept a proper mechanical gerber layer and the outline is complex. I have sometimes drawn a hair thin silk layer outline along the true board outline. This has always worked but of course you get extra crap on the silk layer.

Are you sure you're interpreting their requirement correctly?

Personally i would interpret that sentence as saying the outline must be included in at least one layer you submit to them.

So adding a mechanical layer with the boarder outline to the zip file you submit would satisfy their rules.

There's nothing in the sentence that makes me think they require the board outline as part of the main copper/solder/overlay layers.

I put the board outline on all layers, as Altium has easy support for it. Sometimes they even require it. Makes total sense for me, as it is way too easy for a technician to move the gerber layers.
