Custom supply symbols, complaining about footprint
« on: September 12, 2014, 08:50:26 am »
I made some custom supply symbols. But now when I convert my schematic to a board the layout side complains about missing footprints for the supply symbols. I tried changing the part type from "Net port" to "Power and gnd" but I get the same complaint from both. Probably something simple but how do I mark these symbols so that they have no footprint and are not supposed to have one?

If you dont want them to have a footprint, there is an option for that in the editor.  You simply provide a blank attached pattern (none).

However, when converting the schematic to board, It may want to try and assign a pattern for them.  Not sure, yet, how to overcome that.

A supply symbol is normally just naming a Power Net. Add a header/connector component for physical connection.

The Part Type assigned in the component editor should definitely be "Net Port".

Put it back to Net Port, save your library, and then update the components in the schematic by right Clicking and selecting from the Update From Library options.  Then try to create a PCB from it.

Okay I think it was just bugging. They were originally "Net port" but I got the missing footprint complaint. Tried the "Power and gnd" but didn't help. Now I changed it back to "net port" and now it doesn't complain anymore.
