grabbing objects that are under other objects?
« on: July 16, 2014, 04:03:34 pm »
<apologies, I'm dumping a couple of weeks' worth of DT annoyances today>

This may be a Diptrace FAQ, but I could not find it.

I sometimes put parts inside the footprint of other parts. For example, I might put a little QFP or SOIC right inside a DIP outline for the same part, so that I can fit either part when I populate the board. Another situation might be trying to fit a passive or two under some object where you know it will fit because the first object is elevated off the board.

Anyway, if I do this, often can no longer "grab" the part I want in order to move it; DipTrace always grabs the top part. Eagle solved this by letting your round-robin through all the 'things' your mouse could be over. How is this done in DT?

One solution is temporarily moving the covering part, but that messes up routing?

Regards,
Dave J

Maybe there is option to move the selected part to back?

Simply click more than once to select underlying objects.

Sometimes it could be helpful to lock temporary the above part when moving the underlying parts.

It's a royal pain in the arse, I had this problem when I had my PCB on the back of a large component being a pressure transducer. What I did was to swap the footprint of the whole pressure transducer for one that was just its terminals as it was becoming impossible to work with the board as it was smaller than the pressure transducer. I did contact dip trace support but they didn't seem to see the problem
