The DipTrace thread has been rather quiet for some time which is a shame.
I presume this is because the software is so easy to learn that newcomers find everything second nature :)
DipTrace is seen by some as "basic schematic & pcb design software" that is not very sophisticated.
Here is a video showing how to place copper pours on the internal layers of an 8 layer board, how to place fanout vias for multiple BGA SMD components & then how to auto-route the layers & check for any errors.
Now, this video was uploaded in 2011 using DipTrace ver 2.2. DipTrace has moved a long way since then to Ver 3.0.0.2 however the same "easy to learn" & "easy to use" philosophies still apply.
Remember that some of the best software programmers come out of the Ukraine. That is why both Altium & DipTrace (Novarm) have programmers located there.

The linux version runs under wing and works OK I use it on a dell Inspiron 9100? Runs OK.
