At this point DipTrace doesn't know what the via is for so there are more steps to take.  Right click on the via and select "Add to Net" from the context menu. Then select either "Select by Mouse Pointer" or "Select from List..." and pick your ground connection with the mouse pointer or from the drop down list.

Assuming you have multiple vias to connect to ground you can select a batch of them either with a window or by holding the ctrl key and clicking on each one. Then when you right click you will see a menu selection under "Add to Net" called "Selected Vias." from there you can select which net to connect them to from the drop down.

It helps to name your nets in the schematic prior to getting to this step.

Farley in the above post has given you a good run through.

One thing to consider is to place all your "new" vias to the side of your design first. Then connect them to the appropriate net (by following Farley's post above), then shift them to where you want them, then repouring the existing ground plane.

You can hide the ground plane (or any copper pour) while you do this if you wish.
