Where is the pattern file?
« on: December 13, 2013, 02:25:33 am »
I have downloaded a library "SparkFun-Capacitors.eli" and I see all the components and attached patterns, but how do I access the attached pattern to edit it?

For example, in the Component Editor page, the attached pattern is "PANASONIC_G", but after a search in the Pattern Editor with the search in "all libraries" box checked the PANASONIC pattern is not found.   Since there was no .lib file with the SparkFun library, i'm guessing the pattern is being pulled from some other .lib file?

I wonder why there is no right click, "open pattern" or "edit patter" option.

I'm fairly new to DipTrace so i'm hoping it's something simple I overlooked.

A few hours later I found it:  "Pattern/Get From Component" in the Pattern editor tool.

OK this is old but here's new info for anyone interested.

Patterns are normally created in the pattern editor; the user then designs a schematic symbol in the component editor and then selects and associates the desired pattern with the symbol.  However, when the pattern is associated with the symbol, Diptrace copies the pattern into the component library so changes to the pattern in the pattern library are not automatically updated into the component library.

If you update a pattern, you need to:

1. Save the pattern library - don't need to close
2. Open the component in the component library and click on [Pattern]
3. Navigate to the pattern library and select the same pattern name - you'll see the pattern change in the display as you do this
4. Click [OK]

What you've just done is copy the amended pattern into the component library so we have a few more steps to get the revised pattern into out design:

5. Save the component library  - don't need to close
6. Open the schematic editor and right click on the affected component and choose Update From Library>Selected Component (or similar components if there is more than one of the same type
7. Save your schematic
8. Open the PCB editor and refresh from the related schematic

Now you're done.
If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer
