Eagle hangs at end of autoroute
« on: January 16, 2018, 12:57:13 am »
I've had this problem with eagle for years, I think I even asked Cadsoft about it once but never resolved the issue. Anyhow, maybe somebody here knows:

Occasionally after the Eagle autorouter finishes and I click the "End Route" button, it hangs for some period of time. Greyed out screen in the board editor, spinning circle. This almost always is related to using polygons. More complex boards result in a longer hang. It's been hung for about 10 minutes on a relatively complex board that I'm working on now. Windows task manager shows eagle is using 10% of the CPU. I have a six core system, so I assume that percentage is aggregated across the cores and means one core is mostly consumed.

Does anyone know, 1) what the heck it's doing, 2) how to prevent it from doing this, and 3) how to abort it short of killing the process.

Thanks,
Scott

Are you using network attached storage (NAS, or SAN) in your system?  Or is it all locally attached storage?  Can you try the same autorouting while disabling networking of any kind and see if the hanging disappears?

Yes, I am working across a SMB volume to a Linux box. I'll try moving everything over to a local disk and see what happens.

I also tried disabling the Top router (I almost always choose one of the other routes before Top router completes), and the problem seemed to go away. It has been occasionally intermittent, so that might not be it.
