Eagle: Strange name for GND signal (on two sheets)
« on: September 02, 2018, 12:06:33 pm »
Hello,

can you explain to me what's happening here?

The GND Signal is present on two schematic sheets and today I noticed it displaying a strange name in the label. When I click on it with the NAME tool, it just displays "GND". Do I have to worry?

Best,
Adrian

Except perhaps for the ??-marks it seems normal to me but I haven't been using EAGLE snince they Went subscription so my memory might fail me. Those baloons are cross-references so they're telling you where the "other end" of that net can be found, Sheet 1, Row 4, Column A or whatever.

You should connect pin C3 to a GND symbol like in the other sheet.

Isn't it sufficient to have the signal named GND?

Okay i testet and found out that the strange extension to the signal name comes when the same signal is present on two sheets. When I deleted sheet 2, the label said "GND" again.
I find this way very confusing and annoying especially in this case where only on sheet 1 are the items I want to pe printed to a PDF.

Well, then turn off the cross-reference feature.
Change -> Xref -> Off, click on existing label or place new ones.

Okay, I didn't know that "Xref" changes more than just the appearance of the label. Thanks

You can also set up your XREF labels. I usually set it to just the signal name and sheet. I don't use grids much so it's cleaner than ?? every time.
