Loose Symbol Values when Updating Library
« on: April 01, 2015, 04:06:23 am »
I was wondering if anyone has had an issue in Eagle where when you update the layout of a part and then sync. the library change to your board and schematic, the schematic looses the values of those updated parts.

For me, I tweaked the footprint of a 0603 resistor device, and once I updated my library, my schematic lost the values of all resistors in that package. Luckily I have backups, but it is a tedious and annoying problem that I am hoping someone has found a solution to.

I am running Eagle 7.2.0 Standard on Windows 8.1
Thanks,
Charlie

Never happened to me. What I do know is that when you change the footprint in the device-editor, you will loose all attributes.
But only editing the footprint without making changes in the device does not affect the values of the device in the schematic.
I'm using V6.60 by the way.
Check if in the device editor "Value" is set to Off.

Thanks for the feedback. Value is set to on for the device.
Thanks,

From the manual:

VALUE On: Permits the actual value to be changed in the schematic.

VALUE Off: Automatically enters the actual device name into the schematic (e.g.74LS00N). The user can only modify this value after a confirmation.

I never use the libraries of Eagle, I always create my own libraries, devices, symbols and footprints. Also, I always set Value to off.

Can you try to set it to off as well and see what happens?

Yes, I have exactly the same problem.  Eagle 7.2.0 on OSX.  I have no idea what causes it or what the solution might be.  It's quite obnoxious.
