Software Developer wanted!
« on: July 26, 2015, 07:52:47 am »
After the successful launch of EAGLE Version 7.3, CadSoft is looking to strengthen their software development team. Having expanded our sales team in the last year, an additional position to grow our development capacities has been created. To support the on-going development of EAGLE, we are now looking for a highly-motivated Software Engineer to join our team!

If you are a software developer with first professional experience and want to be part of creating the exciting onward journey of EAGLE, please do not hesitate to make your application (in English or German) for the position of a Junior Software Developer via the Premier Farnell career site, where you can also find the full job description.

you should indicate the location and the language requirements.

(yeah, I checked; its in germany (bavaria) and you must speak german well.)

those are important details and should be part of any job listing that is on a wide-distribution forum, such as this.

Why do you need fluent German in your team? I think you are missing lots of opportunities here. German is a very hard to learn language and these days English is so common there your could live in Germany just by using English.

Having offices in UK and Poland would make moving easier to these countries instead of just Germany and look for local talent there too. But whatever, this seems corporate policy and such stuff I'm never able to understand.

I looked at your developer vacancy, I have some concerns about it:

- Eagle seems coded in Delphi, am I right? Why are Perl, C, C++ and Qt needed? Are there plans to rewrite Eagle to C++ and QT instead? That would be good news, I hope it doesn't get bloated in the process.

- Who needs Perl these days? There's Python and it's used widely in the scientific fields. What about using it for scripting instead ULP and SCR? As you know, there's some attempts about using Python with Eagle: PyEagle, to use most of the ULP API in Python, another PyEagle, to read and write Eagle 6.* files, other not related pyeagle, to read and display binary Eagle 5.* files, other not related pyeagle again about creating .SCR files.

- Sysadmin+Developer? What about serving coffeea and cleaning the offices too?

It's not my team, it's also not my developer vacancy. I'm not affiliated to Cadsoft or Farnell.
I don't have any business with Cadsoft apart from that we are using their software for electronics development.

As far as I know, Eagle isn't written with delphi. It's written in C++ and it uses Qt for the GUI.
That's why it's fast and lightweight and runs on different platforms.

You should direct your questions to Cadsoft or ask in the official Cadsoft forum:

Hello.

I'm sorry. I did think you were part of CadSoft/Farnell or some kind of astroturfing stunt. I did see too many shit that I became paranoid.

The software is lightweight, I like that. Unfortunately, it's becoming expensive in comparison with competition and has many long time unresolved quirks for being a relatively expensive software.

It's the better thing in it's range these days, but that can change very soon and I think one more junior developer doesn't solve things. Anyway, it's their business.

But what is making me dislike Eagle now more than ever is their new insane always online DRM, another shit I hate of big brothers such as CircuitMaker. The Altium licensing event is PITA too, they only about legal users because warez versions ironically are less painful to use (this happens a lot in PC games)

I recall reading a while back they were laying people off? Did they change their minds?

Eagle already uses Qt, it takes only the most cursory glance to see that.
