Tool for fastening SMA pigtail to PCB
« on: April 05, 2019, 06:21:17 am »
Hi all,

We're producing a data logger with WiFi.

As part of our production finalization process, we need to fasten an SMA pigtail connector to our PCB.

Currently we do this on the PCB before we slide the PCB into our enclosure - but that creates a number of inefficiencies.
It would be far more ideal if we could fasten the pigtail connector after the PCB is in the enclosure - but to do so, we need an adequate tool.

I've attached a picture. The pigtail connector is ~1 CM inside the enclosure and there's ~1.5/1.0 cm above/below the PCB inside the enclosure.

Any suggestions for tools would be much appreciated!

Best,
Martin

I've not seen tools to do this.

3D print or fabricate something from plastic, aluminium or some FR4?

Start with a "stick" with some blu-tac on the end and go from there.

You may be able to use a small amount of tension on the pigtail to hold the connector part in the tool while you connect it.
