EEVblab #1 - The EEVblog Is Hiring
« on: December 14, 2014, 12:50:11 am »
The first EEVblab episode.
EEVblabs will be quick one-take videos. No editing, no frills, Dave just hits record and uploads. These could even be done on the road if needed.
In this episode, the EEVblog is hiring, Rigol DS1054Z update, and Patreon.
Suggestions for blab videos can be made here.

Maybe you could get a few preprinted cards to hold up while the video starts Announcement, Tips and Traps, Tech Note, Rant and so on.

Looks great to me.  KISS.
IMHO, going to high frame rates on the regular programs is a complete waste of your time, YouTube's disk space, and the Internet bandwidth to view them at our end.  Not to mention that there are still probably many of your viewers who don't have the luxury of 10s of MB of internet speed to view such content.

Unless you are demonstrating something particularly high-speed, there is no reason for anything beyond 25 FPS. And if you ARE demonstrating something high-speed, you would probably shoot it at a very high frame rate and then edit it back in at "nominal" to have a slowed-down image to explain.  As you have already made the point here, EEVblog is about CONTENT not about "production value".

You get to pick which stream you watch, and who cares about Youtube's disk space?

I say upload at 8k 240fps and let the viewer decide which resolution they want to watch  :D

But how do you select the frame rate? Or see what you're getting?

If a video has the option of 60FPS you see it in the resolution drop-down, otherwise you just get your "standard" frame rates.

I routinely choose 480 unless I want to read the small writing. But how do you select the frame rate? Or see what you're getting?

Get Chrome or IE, and you'll see it as options in the resolution button. My system is aging and can't play the forced 720p50 so I use Firefox for 720p25.

Dave, nice concept, don't let it die! I loved car rants so much! :D

I would love to help you in the lab, but unfortunately i don't happen to live in Sydney. Hope you'll find some brilliant guy in there soon, good luck with that!

I somehow manage to watch the 720p 50FPS with a 2meg bit bandwidth, almost in real time streaming.

I only see options for the resolution, not the framerate, but I've noticed that lately I have to switch to 720 instead of 1080 to get the audio and video in sync. It looks just as good as 720 anyway.

Not so. In Flash on Firefox you will get the 50/60fps without any warning. Although on Windows at least, it will just drop frames instead of actually managing it.

I find it funny how everybody is arguing about the frame reate and nobody has mentioned the job position.

I am the ideal candidate! If only I lived in Sidney!  |O

I'd keep the lab organized and stuff, right now is a bit of a mess Dave.
If I ever get to Sidney, I'll clean up the lab with you, I actually enjoy cleaning up a mess when it's big enough  ;D

I totally agree! I wish I were in Sydney hahaha. It seems a perfect job to me XD

Well, I'm sure Dave will find someone nearby. It's clear that there are many people who may want the job.

By intentional design. And left in place by Dave.
Perhaps you missed the EEVblog #689 - Back To The Future Time Circuits Troubleshooting where he mentioned exactly that phenomenon.

Good idea, though some sites might mangle it with autocorrect and spell checkers as default, especially at the beginning of a sentence.

I thought Dave was having some issues with new cams and res!

good luck all!

I use Flash on Firefox on Windows, but I set " I have a slow connection. Never play higher-quality video " in my youtube options, so it plays the low quality videos by default.

Dave has been clearing the decks of some neglected things. The BTTF clock repair, the Transistor tester teardown and the Digilent Analog Discovery review all been a long time on the back burner. Now the longest of all I'll bet it's the uSupply. I wouldn't be surprised to see a multimeter shootout soon too.

I'm hoping to get a EEVintern to help out finishing off the long neglected uSupply.
uRuler 2 is always but a few hours cut'n'paste whim away on Pozzible.
I was this close to reviewing a Brymen meter the other day, but did the Analog Discovery instead.

You should get a green hardhat, EEVintern on it and a blue stobe on top, just tell him/her health and safety requires it for insurance reasons. If the intern doesn't go for it you know they have the guts to speak up, if they do go for it they really got guts.

Actually the lab could use a funny hat, the tinfoil was awesome.
