Where to find ESP8266 firmware?
« on: December 03, 2017, 01:06:09 am »
Hi All,

I have recently acquired some ESP8266 modules. I have since had a search around for the newest firmware. I have found so many versions on so many websites that I am slightly lost which is official or not and what works with the Arduino IDE. I have got the board definitions from http://arduino.esp8266.com/stable/package_esp8266com_index.json this seemed to be the most recommended one. Which firmware do you guys use? I there an update for this module? AT+GMR gives me

Code: [Select]
AT+GMR

AT version:0.21.0.0
SDK version:0.9.5

OK

Sorry for being a noob,
Gabriel

Usually the board vendor has a link for the firmware.

FLASHER is one utility that will do it - http://www.instructables.com/id/Intro-Esp-8266-firmware-update/

Hello Gabriel,

what way do you want to go with the ESP? If you want to run LUA script or go by AT commands, then the instructables link hooks you up I guess.
My recommendation however is to write your own firmware via Arduino IDE. The integration of ESP8266 support is straight forward, just follow the instructions on the ESP8266 Arduino github and the board manager will take care of the rest.
Everything else works just with any other Arduino compatible MCU.
