It happens in the best of families!

When I was very young,I had some clockwork toys proudly labelled:-

MADE IN U.S Zone,Germany.The latter bit in tiny letters.

This scam only lasted a short while,as when the FDR & DDR were formed,the term "Zone" lost its meaning.
Things were very tough in Germany at the time,so I guess they thought anything which would get a few more sales was worth it.

Then there was the little town of USA in Japan (Probably an urban myth,but it was a good story)

I am old enough to remember the term"Jap Crap".
