how does youtube wor

Hi all

I'm trying to upload some stuff to youtube. I put it up yesterday afternoon but it still does not show. Can anyone explain how the process works ?

To be honest I uploaded MP3 files, but they were accepted, but can they be rejected later ?

If the mp3 is copyrighted stuff and someone or youtube workers believe its infringing the copyright then it can be taken down but it will send a message to your youtube account stating it was taken down (same with flagged materials). So, if you didn't receive any messages from them then it's probably a problem with the server and I suggest you just upload the file again. My videos usually gets accepted and displayed to public in less than 2-3 minutes after it finishes uploading to the server.

ok well I own the material as it is recordings made for the blind. I'll have another go. Does youtube accept MP3 directly ?

Technically I think you're violating the copyright of the paper but the normally allow this kind of thing so it won't be a problem.

well we are violating the copyright of the paper by even putting it on tape/mp3 then. There are other online services for talking newspapers so I think the papers involved (usually the local ET) don't mind. I've spotted some content from other talking newspapers on youtube but I'm not sure if it's original stuff or from a paper as I've not had time to look

YouTube won't take MP3 files directly so I'm hashing them into videos with windows movie maker

It may be that If the format is MP3 they do additional checs compared to video.
Certainly for video it's available a min or two after upload.

well I found my files in the end and they were unprocessed saying that they could not process the format. I think because youtube has tools to help you make videos they will take the MP3 files but only for use in compositions

so now I'm trying to figure out how to make a play list, I have a poxy drop down list of a few videos mostly those watched by me but not uploaded - becoming ever unimpressed, looks like google is going microsoft style

You could make the mp3 files into lo-res videos with a static image with the mp3 soundtrack. The image could be the logo for the service your doing this for?

yep that is what I'm doing using windows movie maker, but I'm finding youtube to be a worse maze than ebay and that is saying something !

it is very un-intuitive I have to say but I'm learning my way around - I think.

If you need just the audio I would suggest this: http://soundcloud.com/

There is no point to encode an empty video with audio track and then host it on youtube.

that might be an option, although I'm hoping to attract attention from people on youtube as well as embedding it. I'll have a look at soundcloud but I'm worried about any service with limited bandwidth si it must be unlimited.

You could add subtitles in large text which would benefit the partially sighted and foreign language students alike.

well that is far more work than I have time for but it does give space for the organizations logo, names of readers and possibly a portrait photo
