Did i make this part okay?
« on: February 18, 2013, 06:24:29 pm »
Hi Dave and guys,

Yesterday i got an idea of making an 2.1 amp using TDA8954's as power stage but sadly i didn't find any eagle library for them
So i made a library myself but i am wondering if it is ready for use, is the pads placed correctly and etc. :)
Please help me and if someone can please check for mistakes and other crap that could have happened while i was making this :)
Thanks a thousand in advance :)

Regards,
Aldas

print it out on 1:1 scale and put the part on.

The biggest mistake made during board layout or library design is NOT having the actual part. i refuse to make any new footprint unless i have the actual part in hand. I print the made footprint on a 2400dpi printer on photopaper and drop the part on. look under microscope to verify all is well.

Datasheets do contain errors sometimes and the dimensions may deviate.

At the moment i dont have the part because this is just a design stage of my idea on the other hand i dont have an microscope yet
At least did i make a correct pad placement ? I doubt that Philips did an mistake in the datasheet :)
Also linking seems to be a bit tricky how to check that?

you'd be amazed at how many datasheets are wrong...
you don't need a microscope. print it on 1:1 scale and drop the part on.
I dont know if you used the power so or the thru hole version but things like that centre pad on the power so or the offset fromt he pin columns to the edge of the package are sometimes tricky. the best solution is to get the STEP file... but that may be hard for these packages.

i can't check your library, i don't have or use eagle. maybe someone else on the forum can do that.

does NXP have anything like the TI footprint database for the ultralibrarian software?

All resources i found on HSOP-24 have same information also SOT566-3 package outlines i found had same dimensions so i presume this package doesn't have any terrible mistakes but all of them can be wrong but i really doubt that :)

Ok will order couple of tda8954 chips to check and parts bin for future :) thats a pity that there aren't any locally available :(

NXP has a package outline database i really doubt that they have ready made stuff for CADs

That is a good rule-of-thumb.    I have adopted it as my standard operating procedure.   Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
