Meanwell SE-600-12 Fan Control
« on: January 11, 2017, 07:44:42 pm »
Hi all!

I want to mod Meanwell SE-600-12 to make it less noisy. I no need all 600W of power, I will use only 35-40% as maximum. But I come across with a problem - it run fan all the time, including when not loaded and absolutely cold.  It’s extremely nosy like 19” server. I want to lower fan’s rpm or something like this.

I Googled for SE series schematics, but absolutely nothing.

Does anybody have schematics or know MeanWell / NES models with similar schematics or even fan control?

Okay guys, I can't wait for schematics.

Here is my solution for MeanWell SE-600-R16VAI.

It's manual, yes. But it will work for me, because I don't plan to load PS for more than 250W. And advantage is its 100% reversibility. Nothing was cutted, destroyed or even soldered. All you need is Zalman Fan Mate or similar fan controlller with DC regulation in 5-13 V range, a few centimeters of heatshrink, knife and pliers.

Just remove 2-pin connector body from PS and remove male pins from controller's connetor and connect red and black wires accordingly. Leave white (yellow) wire not connected. And here you go!

BTW, real fan voltage is 14.7 VDC when nominal fan voltage is 12 VDC, and it's a reason why fan as noisy as rack server.
