NIST - National Institute of Standards Tree?
« on: November 28, 2017, 08:03:29 pm »
I have heard the term "shade-tree mechanic".
But here is what Google satellite-view identified as the NIST in Ft.Collins, Colorado.
Is this what Dave means by "kinda how 'ya doin"?   ;)

Try looking up their Gaithersburg, MD location.  At least for some time after 9/11, they had all references to the campus purged off the maps.  No public signs, no phone book entries, just a guard shack with a blank sign board next to the gate.

Google identifies one of the antenna towers as "WWV" and you can see the NIST "campus" amid the antenna farm (although not labeled).

I believe much of their “campus” is away from the antenna farm, over closer to Boulder in “normal” office spaces. NCAR also has a large facility in Boulder.

The antenna farm was in the “middle of nowhere” when I was a kid. Now it’s being encroached on by the millions who have moved to the Front Range area since then. 8 million plus and counting. Getting too crowded around here.
