What do you guys think of this?

I think it is a pretty banner.  Other than that, we will just have to wait and see, since they don't really provide any information about what the 'revolution' is.

Since I was trying to get the WaveGen license for free and didn't get it, I'm thinking to sell my Agilent and buy this one if it offers better features and the price is within the same range.

Looking at the symbol, it looks like they will combine an analog scope with a DSO (not new, these are the Digital Phosphor Oscilloscopes) and also a spectrum analyzer.

Yes, it's not hard to figure out what the "revolution" part is  ;D

I guess it's a tweaked MSO2000 series. I mean if they were caught by surprise by the Agilent release, how much can they really do in 6 month?
But if they have done a big improvement of the spectrum analyzer, it would be very interesting. Spectrum analyze implementation on today's scopes aren't that great...

Maybe there should be a contest to see who guesses the closest?

All will be revealed August 30th, I guess.

Just install the trial and wind the clock back.

I can't believe it's that easy.
Some swear it works, others have said it doesn't?

Assuming they are the same as the 6000 series ones, that won't work - they have an absolute expiry date 14 days from when they are requested, but no duration or start limitation. They won't install after the expiry date and will delete themselves on expiry but can be reinstalled if the clock is wound back. The new scopes might not allow the clock to go back as far as the old ones.

The Tek, Tektronix Revolution is a trend towards software enhanced oscilloscope to handle signals and electricity in three basic categories:
1. Analog
2. Digital
3. RF, radio frequency

Dave Jones hints it would be like a Letterman's or Swiss Army knife of the oscilloscope business.  We have multimeters that could do a variety of measurements.  The Tektronix Revolution is a try to take back some of market lost to lower end brands like Rigol, Owon, Hantek, and ADS.  This new Tek scope might be as Dave Jones mentioned, analog like digital oscilloscope for analog signals, spectrum analyzer integrated in for radio frequency signals, and digital storage logic analyzer for digital signals within the same digital oscilloscope, but the personality is alterable by software within and twist of a knob or push of an on screen menu.  This is multiple "scopes;" instruments in one compact and well layout unit.  It will have a wide display for more comfortable to view at and displays more information.   I have been without much work for the last three years, so this August 30, 2011 "Tek Revolution" is not for me.  I would like to try an low end ADS-2062 with a wider display than the Rigol 1052E.  It is a slower 500 MSa/s, which is fine for my hobby and seismograph applications.  I would like to make a calculus analog computer with a FPGA chip and output the results onto an oscilloscope screen.  Early announcement by Tek gets the public excited about their new multioscilloscope like the early days of high technology company early announcement of computer hardware like printers, computers, or products.  The Tektronix revolution will probably surpass this ADS series that I like:

Probably?  ;D

It doesn't even look like they are in the same league.
From the publicly available info - the fact that it has RF capability, and the rather large looking screen on the ghosted image of the scope on the site, it's clear that this thing isn't aimed at the low end market...

I'm wondering how they will price it. I'd be pleasantly surprised if its less than 20K.

After looking more in detail on Tek's products and the promotion image, I take my guess back :)
I still think it will be a tweaked product, using existing tek technology. And I guess it will be using the MSO4000/5000 series, with RF being a seriously upgraded FFT function.

Probably I will look like a complete fool Aug 31st... :o

Anyway, it will be very interesting! The scope market is very interesting these days.

That measure  demo is horrible - you would NEVER want all those measurements at the same time, and it obscures most of the trace - I would  hope you can make it only  display the figures you're actually interested in.....
Widescreen is a nice idea though.
Never heard of this company before - looks like they are a distributor badgeing an OEM product - this is rarely good for updates etc.

I used to love that feature on Lecroy WavePro scope I used in grad school.  You could hit the measure button and see the entire panel of possible measurements.  They were never all useful at once, but I found it a lot more convenient than having to go reconfigure the 6 measurements that could be displayed with the full size trace.  It took up 3/4 of the screen, but it was so fast to pull it up and dismiss that it didn't matter.   This is especially true for a 4 channel scope where reconfiguring the measurement parameters gets really annoying.  Of course it helped that the lecroy had a fairly big screen, so you could get a reasonably useful representation of a single trace on the top 25% of the screen.

It isn't a substitute for being able to configure a handful of parameters to display along side the full size trace, but I find it a very useful feature to have.

Yes, the all parameter measurement is pretty cool. Sort of what one would expect all scopes to do as default. Also nice is that the GUI for all MSWindows based LeCroy scopes is the same all the way from WaveSurfer to 45 GHz LabMaster and 100 GHz sampling scope.

Don't trust me I work in marketing!

After a few years with LeCroy and R&S I work for HIOKI USA. If there is anything I can help with, please contact me.
