Simple Timer Device
« on: May 31, 2017, 09:57:49 pm »
Hi,
I'm located in Brisbane Qld, I'm looking for someone that can code a simple timer, kind of like a lap timer, however it compares a time and then gives a signal if correct.

My understanding is this should be an easy thing to code and build.

I have more details when the right person contacts me about this job. The end goal is to have maybe 3 copies of the built circuit posted to my address, and any related files emailed.

I have a budget $150 and a deadline of July 1st 2017.

Thank you and please let me know if you're interested, as I'm trying to gather qoutes at this point.

Feel free to email me.

My brother-in-law should be able to do this but he is usually very occupied. I'll let him now and we'll see, maybe he will send you an email. He is from Ipswich.

You want a design done and 3 boards built for $150 total including postage?  Really?

Hi Andy217, that would be appreciated thank you.

Hi David_AVD,

$150 is a rough estimate and may not be the total amount. The thing is I have had something similar built in the past though more complex by a Professional for around this, though he is currently unavailable.
I understand the price might scare some people, but It's a representation of the simplicity of the device to be built.

Perhaps it would be wise of me to give some more details on here.

Outline:
The device needs to store a time in milliseconds, (anything from 50ms to 2000ms) this done from the user clicking a button and storing by holding button for 3+ seconds, this 3+ second hold can erase the stored value as well.
User can then try and match the stored time by clicking the button. If there is a match to the stored time (allowing some padding of 50-100 milliseconds either side of the stored time) the device will vibrate for 1 second.

The size has to be as small as possible, hopefully around 30mm x 30mm or smaller, so this would probably need to be surface mount. It also needs to be powered by a button cell.
Regarding building the device, if you can make it small enough without PCB that would be fine initially, but long term a PCB would be much better.

Main components:
MCU
1 x Tactile switch
Button vibration motor
Button cell battery

I will cover costs of Labour + Components & Postage.

Hope this Helps,
Thank you.

Hi evb149,

It's purely for personal use at this point, and some other colleges.
The purpose I can't go into, but it is experimental, nothing commercial though. Custom built is the only way.

Hi Thomas,

Your $150 budget covers about 1 - 2 hrs of a professional's time, which would probably be long enough to capture your requirements and decide what the components will be, but not to actually make anything.

I'd estimate that to design, order parts, build, program, test, pack and ship your boards will take a couple of days by the time the whole job is complete. Longer if there's a PCB involved.

As you say, this is potentially an "easy" job, much better suited to a hobbyist who will do it for the fun of it, than to a professional engineer who makes a living from designing electronics.

Hi AndyC_772,

I'm about to use someone from Upwork, though I havent confirmed yet. We have an agreed price of $450-$500.

This is much higher than $150 obviously, and they're located in India. If anyone one here is still interested considering the higher price above please let me know, otherwise I will continue with this freelancer from India.

Thank you for all the comments.

Thank you everyone for your helpful input.

The job has been started off site, but I look forward to coming back here for future modifications to the device.

Thomas

... I'm about to use someone from Upwork, though I havent confirmed yet....

Upwork takes 20% cut up to $500, then 10% up to $10,000 + VAT and processing fees and FX rates.
Is this right?
