KiCad "don't care" or "alternative" connections
« on: September 29, 2015, 01:07:52 pm »
Hi,

Not sure of the correct terminology here but is there a way of specifying "don't care" or "alternative" connections to a footprint in KiCad?

e.g. when placing a connector where I don't care which pins are used but some alternatives would make for a much easier routing.  Similarly where I have a DAC with 8 analog outputs but I'm only using 3 and don't care which ones are used.

Can't you put the "not connected" symbol (blue cross) on the unused pins in the schematic?

You don't specify on the footprint you specify on the schematic symbol.

In the schematic, connect the wire to all possible pins. Then after the board is done, rip up the unused ones?
