Child Forums in this section.
« on: January 15, 2019, 01:35:35 am »
I would like to propose that we add a few child forums to this section.  There are a few 'themes' that reoccur a lot and it would be good if they were grouped together..  I propose ( to start )

Purchasing -  Discussion on all the PCB Vendors, and where best to get your PCBS, and Assembly services
PNP - everything about Pick and Place
Assembly Process's -
On a quest to find increasingly complicated ways to blink things

Pick and place for kids or assembly for kids is a wrong priority, we should encourage kids to master the soldering iron first. This is how passion for electronics is developed.

And a political section to keep the general chat clean.
A tin foil hat section would clean up the rest of the forum.

Oh, good, I thought I was the only one who read that as children's forum. Which, accidently, is a nice idea :D

I disagree that kids should learn to solder first. We need kids with interest in mechanical engineering, math and systems engineering as well. How else do we grown ups get our shiny new P&P in a few years? While building a P&P kids will learn to solder just fine.  >:D

Replace "child" word with "sub-", you can change the thread's title by editing the 1st post.

I would use sub but 'child' is already in play,  check out the sections on the various EDA pacakges.. They are child.

I see all three of those as parts of a single theme: Manufacturing & Assembly, which is exactly the location where this post live.  :-//

More thought about this, and what would make a big difference to me ( at least ) would just be to have a section dedicated to PCB ordering / manufacturing.  It woudl keep the rest of the thread clear of " which pcb fab should i use ",  " I hate XYZ "..  While they are important they clog up other threads about assembly and DFM.

We have very few child sections of this forum, and it's a bigger decision really on whether or not to add more to the forum in general.
If we do it for this section, then it makes sense to do it for other sections too, like Test equipment for example.
I suspect that people don't like the child sections all that much and/or they aren't all that visible on the top level forum?

Yeah, they're a PITA to find for general browsing and a sticky is a better bet for content of value.

And what annoying is, even for old timer forum members, some still have nasty habit of posting a technical thread, or worst "all subject" of his/her new thread in the "General" section.
