How to specify glueing capacitors to PCB

Hi all, just wondering what the correct way would be to specify to a board assembly house to anchor down some large Cap's???

SMD or through hole?

For SMD you need to glue them if they are on the bottom side and go through wave soldering. There is this red glue (forgot the brand) that gets applied by stencil and then needs heat cure.

For wired we embedded them in silicon. I guess you can also use hot melt glue. For silicon you need to use the electronic type that has no vinegar acid in it. Window type is usually to soft anyway. I use for that a type from Wacker, cost was about US$70/cartridge.

I was puzzled by the statement that through-hole caps are embedded in silicon, until I figured you probably meant silicone. That is a quite different substance!

for large capacitors, i will assume through-hole, if so you would discuss it with the company quoting you for assembly, they will have a process in place and will charge you something to do it, but will be able to do it.

I would NOT use any type of silicon goop.
It has a strong vinegar like odour that can be acidic and not good for copper.
Not so good in heat applications.

If anything, a polyurethane sealant would work well. Google Sicaflex
Just do any of this gluing as a very last stage... after final testing, because it will be difficult to unglue and this stuff may take a day or more to fully cure.
Doesn't stink for days like silicon.
Clean up hands with mineral turps.

There are lots of neutral cure silicone adhesives that are suitable for electronics use.
They don't contain the acetic acid.
