I got a PnP Machine
« on: December 25, 2017, 11:22:26 pm »
I just finished setting up a pick and place machine and reflow oven I purchased at an online auction. I don't really need it, I came across the listing right after I had a frustrating ordeal with an assembly house.

Now that I have it I plan to load it with jellybean components and shorten the assembly process for prototypes (overkill, I know). Perhaps in the future I'll use it for small runs.

What I got:
  • APS NOVASTAR (now DDM Novastar) L40 Pick and Place machine
    This came with:
    - Computer and monitor
    - Five Feeders (2x8mm, 2x12mm 1x16mm)
    - Two bank feeders
    - One vibrating tube feeder
    - A few cut tape holders
    - Nozzle holder and 6 nozzles
  • GF-12HC-HT Reflow oven
  • OKi (Metcal) BVX-200 fume extractor

Unfortunately, I'll be travailing and I don't have any current projects that require assembly so it might be a few months before I can properly play with my new toys.

How much did you pay for it at auction?

PnP was 150 USD, reflow was 230 USD. After fees the total was 504 USD.

A bargain if you can get it all to work. What is the finest pitch pad spacing that it can handle?

The Novastar line focuses on prototype and short runs. My guess is that if you get it to work, it should be useful for occasional use and proto work.

Good luck.

Nothing you can complain about there, that's just a great deal. Mind if I ask what action site you found it on?
Exclamation Point!

Seems to be working. From the Dataseet it can either do 0.635mm or 0.381mm depending on options, i'm not sure which option I received. I got the machine with some reels still loaded on the feeders, some were 0201.

Definitely nothing to complain about.

I got it from Equipnet.

Your prices are astonishing!  I thought I got a GOOD DEAL when I paid $3600 for a used Philips P&P machine!  But, I did get a pallet load of feeders with mine, and that is where you can have a problem if you don't get enough with the initial purchase.  I've got over 50 8mm feeders and about a dozen larger sizes.

Is there a common auction page or it was a specific for that one only?

I'm not sure I completely understand your question.

This was from a timed auction on NOV 28-30, 2017 titled "Reliability Testing, Processing and Support Equipment Warehouse Relocation Sale".

Funny as hell!!

Most people get a new multi meter or something as an impulse buy.....your impulse buy was delivered on a couple of pallets in the back of a lorry and needs it's own room in the house!  :-DD :-DD
Sparks and Smoke means i'm nearly there!
