Ideal hot plate temperature for rework / preheating?
« on: March 14, 2017, 01:47:20 am »
I'm wondering what temperatures people prefer when using a hot plate to preheat a board for hot-air rework?
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

I heard 150°C but I guess the preheat time it can be influenced by the number of layers and the heat mass of the ground planes.

120C is good starting point . It will evaporate water, still low and easy on stress, and significantly lowering amount of heat to reflow.
Test and slowly increase if needed.

That works for me.

I think it would be 100° to 125°C.
