New microscope for work
« on: December 02, 2016, 12:26:46 pm »
I'm looking for a new binocular/trinocular microscope for my workplace. Most of the old microscopes are Leica brand.
Looks like their current recommended model is A60

Any experience about this model?

I would like the new unit to be a trinocular model with camera option. Any recommendations?

One option is to buy the A60 and a USB microscope for taking images.

Leica is top quality but expensive.

I don't know your situation, would multiple cheaper but still very decent Amscopes be worth looking at.

Amscope is not so much cheaper shipped to Finland. The Leica A60 is sub 2k€. The Amscope got much more options though.

We bought the A60 F. The stand is great. The old model had a regular boom stand.

The working distance could be better and the led light is unnecessary wide.

Barlow lens. You can trade max magnification for FOV/working distance.

The working distance is smaller than with the old Leica. It is still enough for soldering & hot air. I spend a few hours today with the  microscope. The next one will also definitely have the same stand.

My own stereo microscope in the garage had 10-50 zoom with about 7cm working distance. I fixed it with a 0.5x Barlow lens doubling the working distance and halfing the zoom to 5-10x.
