Zlymex was kind enough to purchase and send 430 pcs of a 2DW233 with what looks like a 4-14 date code from his picture on the 2DW original thread.

This will be a cooperative effort. Everybody who wants to receive some of these please follow these simple
instructions.

1. Everybody who is not in the USA, please add your country beside your name on the list. Just copy the list, paste the list into a new post on this thread, and add your country beside your name.

2. If you are not on the list, and you want to be on the list, copy the list, add your name and country to the bottom of the list and post the amended list.

Housekeeping items

1. You will need to pay for United States Postal Service (USPS) shipping of the parts to your location. I can accept Paypal. If you cannot send payment for the shipping then you will have to find another way to purchase these for yourself. I have shipped stuff to just about every country in the world, so , chances are that USPS can get these parts to you no matter where you are. After I have a representative package to ship, I can post the price of shipping to various countries.

2. If we end up with 150 people on this list then everybody gets 2.8667 pieces. That is just the arithmetic of the situation. Lets see how this list develops and we can discuss it. My personal opinion is that 10 pcs is the minimum that would be interesting. That means we can accept up to 43 people on this list.

3. When it is time to ship, I will send you a PM on this site with an invoice and instructions for sending payment for shipping.

Your designs are awesome. I would welcome a board that you design. The zener is nominally 6.25VDC. You have to tweak each board for the zero TC of the individual part.

An ovenized board like what is in the DMM7510 would be great. Set the temperature inside the ovenized module for between 30 and 35 C and it should be stable in every home lab situation.

30-35 seems low,  that is room temperature in sumer .. It gets hot here..

I think that the current in the Zener will affect the zero TC temperature. There may be a current that allows a lower zero TC temperature.

In any event, having an oven that can be set by the user will allow different oven temperatures in different parts of the world. Even if the 30 or 35 or 40 C oven is not at zero TC of the zener, if the oven is more stable than the home lab environment, then the reference with the oven is better than no oven at all.

Just my opinion. In my home, my Fluke 731B that I monitor changes about 1 ppm for every 2 degrees F of change in my home temperature. My home temperature can easily vary +/- 5 degrees from week to week. I turn off the HVAC when it is nice outside and open the windows.

I have seen my 731B vary 5ppm over the course of a day where it is hot in the afternoon and cold overnight. Adding an oven to the 731B would make it a much more useful reference standard.

I agree that we could use some boards like the LTZ from TiN.

The oven would be good for those that don't have HVAC in the workshop or lab, in my case the temps in the workshop vary from mid 20's Cº in fall/winter to mid 30's Cº in summer, still waiting for the BME280 sensor to start tracking the change of temp in the workshop.

Now just need some GPIB cables and GPIB-USB from China.

Attached is a design by Warren S of the VoltNuts email list. I traded some emails with him and he shared the schematic. His posting on the VoltNuts list is pasted below the schematic.



For the Extreme (or cheap) Volt Nut, There is another choice.
Attached is the circuit of a 0.1 PPM, 10 volt transfer standard.
It has ONLY ONE critical part that limits its accuracy and stability.
Everything else can be made to have so little effect as to be insignificant or else can
be trimmed and calibrated out without using a precision voltage source using a method
similar to what the daily auto cal in the HP3458 does. It measures it's own internal 6+V
reference.
Every year or more, best to record the value of the nominal 6.2 volts, to measurement the
ageing rate, by using a known external 10 volt standard.
To do that, an accurate external way is needed to find the exact ratio of the 6.2 volts
to the external 10 volt standard.
This can be done by using a high resolution Linear DMM (aka HP3458A) OR a Kelvin-Varley
divider (aka fluke 720 ) and null meter (aka Fluke 845).
Lets assume if one wants to do 0.1 PPM things, then they have the equipment and skill
needed to measure a 10v to 6v ratio to 0.1 PPM.
After that ratio is known and recorded the units internal 10 volts can then be set to
that same ratio without further need of the external 10V standard.
The main advantage of all this extra trouble is low cost accuracy and stability.
There are no critical or expensive resistor needed or anything else critical, because all
the TC and long term drift are canceled out whenever a manual trim is done using an
external ratio device to check its own 10 V against it's own 6.2 volts.
Nothing very special is needed to build this beside care and time.
To get the best performance, It does take a lot of Nut-time to match and select things.
Total parts cost with a well supplied analog junk box (or EBay) can be under $10.
Any good 6V type reference device could be used.
I'm using a well aged and selected 1n825 because I have a lot of history with them and
they work good without an oven.
I have not done any mailing test on these parts but they can be Zero TCed so that they do
not change 0.1PPM over normal room temperature
and they show no change when powered down for short periods of time and tend to return to
their original value when hit with a heat gun and cold stray, so it makes a good part to
start experimenting with.

TiN that idea of make everything in one board with this schematic is good, since we can send it as na Traveler Standard and be adjust by some guys with 3458, 720, and 845, also the space for 10k is good.

That schematic would be good also for a new LTZ1k board revision, also with the place for the 10k on board.

Maybe a new chalange this two boards Illya. :-)

Resistors array I prefer Vishay NOMCA and pots Bourns 3250W or VPG 1280G.

plesa, the NOMCA series looks good for the 5+3 array of 20k, but I only can find them in multiples of 500.
The Bourns pots are PWW and very good but, 22€ each, the Vishay pots are 16€ each.

Resistors nothing fancy, Vishay UXB series or PTF56.

Here any resistors like UPW-20/50 series, Edwin, UXB, PTF,  etc, should be ok.

What do you plan to use as 10k resistor? Vishay foil Z203?
Can we reuse some trimming technique to exact 10k?
Or to reduce BOM using cheap Vishay NOMCA in series/parallel configuration with pot.

How about using 4x40k in parallel, this way cheap PWW, UXB etc could be use, sinc all the tempco is split between them, we could use 4 wire here.

Resistors array I prefer Vishay NOMCA and pots Bourns 3250W or VPG 1280G.

plesa, the NOMCA series looks good for the 5+3 array of 20k, but I only can find them in multiples of 500.
The Bourns pots are PWW and very good but, 22€ each, the Vishay pots are 16€ each.

Resistors nothing fancy, Vishay UXB series or PTF56.

Here any resistors like UPW-20/50 series, Edwin, UXB, PTF,  etc, should be ok.

What do you plan to use as 10k resistor? Vishay foil Z203?
Can we reuse some trimming technique to exact 10k?
Or to reduce BOM using cheap Vishay NOMCA in series/parallel configuration with pot.

How about using 4x40k in parallel, this way cheap PWW, UXB etc could be use, sinc all the tempco is split between them, we could use 4 wire here.

There are NOMCA 20k for 5.18 GBP on Farnell in single quantities..

Where we are right now with the list, there are 35 people with a few yet to respond with confirmation.

430 pcs divided by 35 people, truncated to a whole number is 12 pcs per person.

We can accommodate a few more people. I will cut off additions at 43 people so that everybody gets at least 10 pcs. i will announce when the list is frozen. If someone is not interested because the quantity is too low, you can delete yourself from the list.

I have started a spreadsheet so that i can keep organized. Thanks to everyone for managing your own place on the list. Everybody will be treated equal no matter when they joined. We will all get enough parts to make some PCBs and have some new voltage references.

USPS International First Class letter/envelope fee is between USD $2 and USD $3 for up to 3.5 ounces  (100g) for Europe, Australia and Indonesia. There is a stipulation for thickness of envelope not to exceed 1/4" (6mm). When the parts arrive, I will make up some envelopes and take them to my post office to see if the envelopes are acceptable for international first class mailing.

I will have to acquire enough envelopes and see about possibly adding some protective padding.

Preliminary prediction is that I will round up to USD $3.00 which should cover the postage and materials.

The issue to discuss is that there is no tracking for this low cost service. Any service that includes tracking will cost more than the parts are worth for 10-12 pcs, a lot more. Stupid money kind of more.

Feel free to chime in with your thoughts and suggestions.

I have a suspicion that this is going to be the hard constraint. Those cans look kind of TO-5/TO-72 sized and with any (necessary) padding are going to push a package over 1/4" thick. We might end up having to look at some slower small packet rate to keep the postage proportionate. I'm guessing as I know USPS is as arcane as the Royal Mail when it comes to finding the 'sweet spot' in sending something without paying an arm and a leg.

I'm OK to pay for a tracked packet airmail, as it would be silly to lose the lot after all this effort . I am also quite sure from my experience that it would be not possible to use a letter post, as 6mm max thickness is definitely not enough to accommodate the parts in a proper packaging. Please look for the next size up (small packet post?).

I've shipped a lot of small parcels in the US.  6X9 bubble mailing packs are about 28 cents at sams wholesale.  Haven't bought any lately and they may not carry them now.  Other places they cost 50 to 70 cents each.  I used to cut them in half and that would be sufficient for 20.  First class parcel is around $2.70 and that is the same for up to 3 ounces.  Oddball packager size doesn't matter.  3 oz is a lot of parts.  On ebay online shipping this is about 2.30 now and they include tracking for free.  If you register with USPS for online shipping the postage is cheaper than retail and they may provide tracking free to boot.  If you have a printer, the printing of labels saves a lot of work and they will fit on the half package.  Just providing evidence that a package has been shipped to an area code should be sufficient for most people.  Don't forget you will need wide clear packing tape.

EDIT;  I just had to re register at USPS to check US pricing.  3 oz is $2.62 and they no longer offer Click n Ship for this size package.  Might as well just go to the post office. I can't believe it as I used to use it.  I get lots of things with lousy packing and they still seem to arrive just fine.

So, our part in this effort will be to repay Zlymex's kindness with public sharing of what we will do with these parts and to share our measurements.

I am doing some research to see how I will be able to measure the noise of these parts where they are mounted in a circuit and running.

I was just about to suggest the same. How about all of you EU people here discuss where the best place in the EU is for organizing this. From a sheer numbers standpoint, most of the participants are in Germany. It may make sense to send the entire EU lot to Germany.

Here in Croatia, you can send letters as a scroll, basically in tube format..  50-100g cca 2€ to EU zone..
They consider it normal letter, just care about weight.. Actually they require tube not to be too small...

This was said from the beginning, good for me and the best option. But I will abide by what majority decides, no problem.

I personally don't care, if the shipment cost is $5 or $15.
I also don't care if it arrives a bit delayed (many of my Asian orders need weeks)
As already stated, my target is, to buy them from a know good source and from a known good lot.
It's a bit a pitty to see, in what direction zlymex generous offer tends. The risk: never again or via PM only.

But - minimizing the overall cost is never the less a good engineering task.

So I am open to act as the "German distributor", if the final receivers accept a few days of additional delay and in advance payment.

Just as a general point of information, the CN22 customs form ought only to declare the value of the goods.  It's important for some countries to ensure that you don't make the postage part of the 'value' as it's excluded from their import duty/VAT/whatever calculations. For instance the UK doesn't collect VAT or duty on most goods under the value of £15 excluding postage. If you include the postage you can kick a package over into the band where duty/VAT (and the inevitable handling fee) kick in. Counties that do include postage costs in their calculations just typically use standard figures based on the source, weight, route etc of the package.

If you are going to send international use small packet rates, not parcel rate, as this is only a small amount over letter rate, but, depending on the originating country, will allow up to 20mm thickness.  Also remember that you have to attach a CN22 customs declaration to each packet, otherwise it will be returned to you or destroyed.

Declare the value correctly, including the postage cost, or at least declare the value as postage cost. May incur a customs charge in some countries, but otherwise they might be held in customs forever.

Its also good to have the correct HTSUS or TARIC number on the CN22 declaration.
And sending the letter means that customs treatment is usually 2 weeks.
When you receive the letter then you have to be quick: they only keep the package for about 2 weeks.

Good luck with your attempt to contact them and get samples / purchase options that are suitable.
When you ask for a quote of minimum order quantity it might be good to ask what their pricing quotation is for their different standard quantities.  Sometimes you may get a significantly different price for 10 pieces than 100 or 1000.
My own temptation is to buy in the 100-250 pieces range and I think a few others here also indicated such interest for the previous order, so it may not be impossible that people could wish to combine orders to achieve quanties 500+.

zlymex said he bought and received 50 pieces in each bag so maybe that is a standard quantity for the factory unless his reseller packaged / repackaged the devices in some other way.

EDIT: As for the LM399, yes, I saw your thread about having some nice collection of parts to build a meter or voltage reference, good luck with all that.  I hope to do similarly with references / ADCs etc. some time.  I think having a LM399 or other reference is a good addition to experiementing with these since you can then compare the different types against eacy other.  I could see the possibility of using different types voltage references within a single system according to the attributre of each, the voltage, the stability, the power consumption, etc.  And certainly for experimentation I think many here will be comparing these 2DWxxx references against LM399, LTZ1000, and other references to see what the performance differences are over time and humidity and temperature and part to part variation.  But if you only wish or need to experiement with one reference for the time then there's nothing wrong with the LM399, I'd like to get some of those as well soon to compare with others and use each for their optimum possible purposes.

You may encounter a problem with customs as the value of the parts is USD$ 0.24 each. A batch of 50 parts may trigger customs fees whereas 10 pieces may not trigger a customs fee.

It is up to you people to talk among yourselves and decide.

Today i visited the USPS office to discuss shipping options. I also purchased 40 padded envelopes.

The parts are too large for a "letter" envelope. The maximum thickness is 0.25 inches. The parts are larger than that.

So, the padded envelopes are charged the same as a very small and light package for first class postage.

It looks like many countries will be USD $13.50 for first class package rate.

USPS International Priority will be USD $33.95 for a Small Flat Rate Box.

I have begun sending PMs for shipping costs.

My suggestion to have one participant in the EU receive all of the 180 pieces of the 2DW232 and do the distribution for the remaining EU participants.

Plesa has arranged for shipping of all of EU parts.

The final list of names has 42 total names. So, there are officially 22 names for EU+UK. 50 pcs already are on the say to UK. 170 pcs ship to Plesa today.

Two shipments will post to Australia today.

10pcs will post to TiN today.

Asia is next on my list to contact for shipping addresses etc.

Well the factory order just arrived (at 0430 local time...) and I have packaged them and printed the international mail documents. Will send them later (0540 local time now and I really need to sleep.)

Maximum current is 30mA and maximum power is 200mW. At 15V, you want to set current limit at 13 mA. Not sure if the part will draw more than 13mA at 15v.
