HP 3457A (last cal in 2000) vs DMM7510
« on: February 04, 2018, 06:07:40 pm »
Picked up a very clean HP 3457A just over a week ago, the more I play with it the more impressed I am.  Just had to show this, room temp held steady at 23 deg C, fresh auto cal on both DMM7510 and 3457, measuring my ovenized LTZ1000A.

I was considering sending it in to Keysight for a cal, but now I don't think it would benefit the meter at all.  Currents and resistance are well within spec as well.  Already changed out the CALRAM battery.

Usually the 3457 is not considered such a good meter. It is relatively noisy and the voltage rages are a bit unusual that there is no range with an amplifier gain of 1 and thus no range with really good long time specs. Also high impedance is only for the 3 V and 300 mV range. 30 V is already with an input impedance of 10 M.

The optional internal scanner is a nice feature, but that is about it.

A similar instrument would be the Keithley 2001, with advantages on the 2001 side.
