Standard Reference Labs Trancells: any information available?
« on: February 12, 2017, 09:58:10 am »
I've just taken a punt and bought a couple of 10V sources for small change - but I haven't fetched them yet.

The only info I have is that one is a main-powered "Standard Reference Labs VTS-5/10-A-2", and the "Standard Reference Labs TC01" is powered from 28V.

Is there is any information available, and/or any hints and tips as to how to use/abuse/recondition them?

Thanks

Unfortunately no model info can be found. I tried looking in detail a few years ago, and a quick search just now. Look into Kenneth Koep, he did some work with nist/nbs.
I was buying 10v supply(not a precision one), but it ended up getting stolen from the dealer.

Drat.

I'd seen the name "Koep" in conjunction with Trancell, but haven't worked out the actual connection.

Drat again :(

The only info I have is that one is a main-powered "Standard Reference Labs VTS-5/10-A-2"

As far as I know all the Koep / SRL units were built around a selected zener (~1N829) and the well known circuit.

They also sold the diodes individually under their own brand and part numbers. If money was not an issue, TC less than 1 ppm/C, stability 5 ppm/year and rms noise level 0,08 ppm guaranteed.

This is the closest to any koep manual.

Why didn't I find that? Sigh, sometimes I irritate myself.

When you get it, take a lot of pictures.

Other than geek porn, in order to show what?

The auction pictures are attached.

I have a triple output Koep reference. I got that original document linked above and uploaded it a while ago.

Inside my  unit, all references are potted and have wires that come out to the front panel. Not a lot to see. They are not isolated as they share the same common.

Behind the faceplate of the inner shielded enclosure was dry rotted foam. It is certainly worth a look to make sure some hidden mess isn't floating around inside the box.

Pretty sure he was referring to the innards/construction.

Very decent of you; thanks.

Yes.

Indeed. Maybe there is an old battery inside, hopefully intact.
